Following the release date shifts, we're now set to get Avatar 4 on December 21, 2029 and Avatar 5 on December 19, 2031. Some filming has already been done on the fourth movie with the younger cast, but there's still shooting to be done. Additionally, the fifth movie hasn't started production at all.

Speaking with People, Cameron said the decision to begin shooting Avatar 4 came down to a planned time jump in the movie. "We even did part of movie four because our young characters are all going to have a big time jump in movie four," he said. "We see them and then we go away for six years and we come back.
