Bellatrix Lestrange was not only one of the most powerful wizards in the Harry Potter world but also one of the most dangerous. She was a zealot and followed Voldemort to the ends of the world.
She's probably the most powerful among most Death Eaters and Order members partially because she's completely ruthless and always aim to severely injure and kill her enemies. She defeated Kingsley, Tonks and Sirius (though Sirius in honesty was getting a bit cocky).

Bellatrix won the fair fight with Sirius in Order of the Phoenix, though it was circumstances that killed him, not his cousin—Sirius was hit with a stunning spell, not Avada Kedavra, and died by falling through the veil. This does not make it unfair, of course, but it does seem to have been cut short.

Is McGonagall more powerful than Bellatrix?
Professor Minerva McGonagall is easily one of the strongest Professors at Hogwarts, if not the strongest one. Famous for her calm demeanor and experience, Professor McGonagall exemplifies all those traits that Bellatrix Lestrange seems to be missing.

Ginny was praised only for her bat bogey hex, whereas it's a fact that Hermione was very powerful with her spells and learnt to be better as the series progressed. Same goes for Ron and Harry. Ginny was still a powerful witch but a comparison between her and Luna would have been more apt.

My guess would be that in a duel, Bellatrix would try to play with Minerva, sure of her superiority, maybe trying to angry her so she would make an error.
Bellatrix had a fanatic obsession with the Dark Lord although she was clearly fearful of his magical abilities and absolute power over his forces. She is almost as sadistic and homicidal as Lord Voldemort, with a psychotic personality.

Then, she launches another one that shatters her entire body into pieces, which could be expelliarmus, bombarda, stupefy, or any spell that can produce such an effect.
Probably the fiercest and most dangerous out of them all, Bellatrix was Voldemort's best warrior. She was brutal, powerful and fierce. And scary too… She performs curses (mostly Unforgivable ones) throughout the series and each one she does successfully.

In fact, Ron is consistently weaker than Harry in the books and movies. While Ron is powerful enough to fight by Harry's side, it's pretty clear that Ron's spellcasting falls short of Harry's, and he would lose if they fought for real. Especially if he's using that broken wand of his, held together with Spellotape.
