Dory is a fictional blue tang and a major character of the American animated film series Finding Nemo. She suffers from the disability short-term memory-loss, which often causes frustration to Marlin, especially while his son Nemo is in danger.
Dory is the third female protagonist in a Pixar film, the first two being Merida and Joy. She is also Pixar's third titular character, the first two being Nemo and WALL-E, and the second titular character to be a protagonist overall, the first one being WALL-E. She is also Pixar's first female titular character.
The Regal Blue Tang, Dory in Finding Nemo, comes from the family of surgeon fish and can be identified by its royal blue body, yellow tail, and black “palette” design. This species is relatively common in the reefs of the Indo-Pacific and lives of plankton.

This fish may cause ciguaterra poisoning if consumed by humans. However, blue tangs are collected commercially for the aquarium trade. An unwary human who tries to handle the blue tang risks the chances of being badly cut by the caudal spine.
