Who is the real villain in Frankenstein?
In the novel, the villain is Victor Frankenstein with no doubt. He tried to play God by creating a creature and then left it on its own. Being ambitious is commendable, but being over ambitious is reprehensible. Frankenstein was extreme with regard to his passion and ambition.
Who was more evil, Frankenstein or the Monster? Victor Frankenstein is more evil than the creature. He cannot own up and take responsibility for the creature he has just created as a result of his hubris and ambition. The monster meanwhile, is left to fend for itself in the world without a maternal figure.

In the end, Johan's love for Anna is a powerful force that drives him to commit horrifying acts, but it is also the very thing that humanizes him and makes him a more complex character than a simple monster.
When the creature comes to life, Frankenstein is so afraid of him that he abandons him, thus forcing the creature to learn about the world on his own. The creature feels deeply betrayed by his creator and ends up trying to get revenge on him.

While the monster may have not been successful in obtaining his companion, his notion of using severe manipulation by any means to get his end goal suggests the trait inside of him, adding up to be a plausible case for the monster being a psychopath beyond the societal terms and expectations for it.
Although a character in his own right, the monster also carries symbolic meaning as the consequences of careless science. In the process of creating the monster, Victor thinks little of the social and moral taboos he crosses, such as graverobbing, or of how his devotion to science has caused him to neglect his family.
This “monster” is the supposed murdered of several characters throughout the book and is presumably the main antagonist. However, the actions of Victor Frankenstein suggest that the monster is in fact Victor himself.
Victor Frankenstein is ultimately the key figure to blame for the chaos caused by the monster. His ignorance of his creation led to his downfall and ultimately stripped him of everything he loved.
