HDR extends the color gamut (and properly maps it), contrast, and brightness, which significantly improves details in the highlights and shadows of the image. Most importantly, proper HDR allows you to see the video game or movie the way its creators intended.
It's more than just brighter pictures – the image is crisper, clearer, more colorful and has more apparent sharpness. It more closely matches the dynamic range that can be seen by the human eye, which can reach 14 stops. Standard dynamic range is between six and ten stops, but HDR opens us up to seeing around 13 stops.

Should I use 4K or 1080p HDR?
Most 1080p TVs do not support HDR, so if you want to watch your preferred HDR content, you will need to purchase a 4K TV. The human eye has limitations on its range of perception, and sitting too far away from your television can prevent you from seeing all the finer details in the image.
HDR has a full spectrum (all the colors in the color spectrum) while HD might miss some colors. Thus, images displayed using HDR appears more real. dark colors appear darker and bright colors appear brighter without losing the crisp.
Since HDR works to give you the best of light and dark, it's great to have the setting on when capturing landscape photos. If you want to capture something in motion, turn off HDR to prevent dark or washed-out areas.
Generally, it is a bad idea to attempt HDR when there are people in your scene. It just doesn't do good things to the skin tone and they usually move from one frame to the next, making it hard to do bracketed shots and merge them together.

Hopefully you can see all the reasons why using HDR mode all the time is really a bad idea. So our recommendation after all this is to only enable HDR mode and run the screen in HDR mode when you're viewing actual HDR content. Don't leave it active all the time, and just enable it when you need it.

Full HD is just another term for 1080p or 1920x1080, and those are all ways of referring to the same resolution. By contrast, 4K has a resolution of 3840x2160. That's a lot more pixels in the overall image — totaling over 8 million pixels. As always, the higher the resolution, the sharper the picture will be.
HDR has nothing to do with resolution. 4K resolution refers (rather inaccurately) to the number of pixels on your TV -- the number of the individual dots that make up the image. HDR and wide color affect the range of brightness and colors those dots produce; the "quality" of the pixels, if you will, not the number.
A landscape illuminated by a full moon, for example, can be fairly low in dynamic range. Low-contrast scene illuminated by the full moon, in Zion National Park. But any scene that contains deep shadows and very bright highlights is a candidate for the HDR process—even if it's after dark.
So Auto HDR can access the color information inside a game and give you an HDR presentation of the game. In some games, even ones with native HDR, this could potentially work better. But you would normally want to use the native HDR if the implementation is correct.
Keep an eye on how vivid you make colors appear when calibrating your display. If you increase it too much, HDR content on display might look unnatural and over saturated. The Before and After images might look similar depending on your display.
