Speaking with Discussing Film, Blum revealed there are no plans for any more Insidious movies after Insidious: The Red Door. Blumhouse Productions is bringing back the spine-chilling horror franchise, Insidious, with the official confirmation of Insidious 6. The series, which commenced in 2010 with the original Insidious film, follows the harrowing experiences of the Lambert family as they confront malevolent spirits from The Further.
There are five films in the Insidious franchise, ranging in release from 2011 to 2023, starting with Insidious and ending with Insidious: The Last Door.
Elise Returns As A Ghost In Insidious: The Red Door's Ending
Given when the movie takes place, Elise can only appear at the end of Insidious: The Red Door as a ghost. She's already been dead over a decade after Josh strangled her when he was possessed by the Black Bride at the end of Insidious.
Is Insidious: The Red Door the last Insidious movie?
It is a direct sequel to Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013), and the fifth and final installment in the Insidious franchise. Original director James Wan serves as a producer, as does Jason Blum through his Blumhouse Productions banner.
Insidious: The Red Door is a very underwhelming finale to the once promising franchise. They start off with making Josh and Dalton forget the events of Insidious 1 & 2 which makes their relationship very awkward.
Josh is able to travel beyond the Red Door and frees his son, but the red-faced demon isn't willing to let Dalton just walk away. In order for Dalton to safely escape the Further, Josh must use his body to block the Red Door, sacrificing himself for his son, not unlike what his own dad did.
In the end, Elise meets a girl named Allison who is in a "coma" and realizes something rising behind her. Elise is shocked and says "Oh my god!" gasping, hinting a sequel. The thing that was behind Allison is believed to be the red face demon as it made the same crackling sound as it did in Insidious 1.
Insidious: The Red Door is a hot mess attempting to shoehorn in a plot between Father and Son. We get to waste time watching scenes while the Son is screwing around in college and going to frat parties. It completely misses what made the first three films great and feels like a flat and boring film.
As she packs up for the night, Josh hands her his childhood photos, but as she takes them, she gives Josh a strange and startled look, whips out her camera and snaps a photo of Josh. Furious, Josh goes in a rage and violently strangles Elise, killing her.
Dragging the franchise back to its bone-chilling roots, Insidious 5 catches up with the Lambert family, including haunted patriarch Josh (Patrick Wilson), spooked mom Renai (Rose Byrne) and traumatised sons Dalton (Ty Simpkins) and Foster (Andrew Astor).
A voice greets him, and he turns to see Elise Rainier standing in the road. Though he met her a long time ago, he doesn't remember who she is or how she helped him, and when she tells him that she was a friend of his mother's, he laments not being able to tell her about everything he's been through.
While the first two films follow a connected story, the third and fourth Insidious films serve as prequels to the Lamberts' story. In theory, you could watch the films in chronological order, finishing up your watchlist with the Lamberts and their trials.

All of the instruments and sounds create a non-linear and dissonant sound which evokes fear and horror through the music. The high pitch of the glissando replicates the sound of a scream adding more depth to the theme of fear and horror in the music.

Why doesn't Josh like his picture taken Insidious?
The more photographs taken of Josh, the closer the shadowy woman begins to get to Josh until she is inches away from him, explaining his fear of photos. Elise suggests that Josh should use his ability to find and help return Dalton's soul, to which Josh agrees.
Renai discovers Elise's corpse and sees the photograph she took. The photo reveals that Josh is now possessed by the ghost of the old woman from his childhood, the latter having slipped into his body when he confronted her in The Further.
At the same time, Josh's mother Lorraine (played in the earlier films by Barbara Hershey) has passed away. She was instrumental in helping the Lamberts deal with the supernatural events by calling her old friend demonologist Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) who also helped Josh battle his demons as a child.
The Red Door's ending has Josh rescuing Dalton from the Further and seeing the ghost of Elise (Lin Shaye) to wrap the story. Furthermore, the door is sealed, shutting the Lipstick Face Demon away.
Ultimately, the events of Insidious 2 are the reason why Josh and Renai got divorced. At the end of Insidious, it seems as though Josh has successfully rescued Dalton from The Further, however, in a shocking twist, he murders paranormal expert Elise.
