Although she was a mortal, Jane Foster was able to gain entry into Valhalla after succumbing to her cancer, as she had died in battle against Gorr the God Butcher. Once her spirit entered the realm, she would be greeted by Heimdall who would thank her for looking after his son Axl Heimdallson.
True, Jane didn't die in a battle, but she died because of her participation in that battle. But it isn't just because she fought, it was because Thor's enchantment to Mjolnir to always protect her had resulted in Mjolnir turning Jane into the Mighty Thor.
This event takes place after Foster's return from Valhalla, with the help of Thor and Odin, and after she had successfully gone through chemotherapy, meaning she was slowly getting back to full force.
The decision eventually kills Jane, though we see in a end-credits scene that she does get a hero's afterlife in Valhalla. Thor is shocked by Jane's transformation. Movie fans may be shocked by her death. But Marvel comics devotees were likely unsurprised by the plot twist.
As of right now, there's been no word on whether or not Jane is going to appear in future installments of the MCU. Even so, thanks to various events in the comics, it's possible to surmise what might happen to Jane if the character does end up still having a part in the MCU Multiverse Saga.

Who is Thor's daughter?
Across multiple comic continuities, Thor has had several daughters including Brigid Thorsdottir, Thena Thorsdóttir and Torunn Thorsdóttir, the latter recurring in many iterations. In Norse Mythology, Thor had a daughter named Thrud with Sif.
Though Jane Foster is dead, it's possible that she has a cameo in Thor 5. Valhalla was shown at the end of Thor: Love and Thunder (with Heimdall welcoming Jane), so if Thor dies, he may see her and other slain Asgardians.
Jane Foster's death in Thor: Love and Thunder isn't the result of a bullet, or a cosmic blast of magic, it is because of a devastatingly real issue: her genetics. Her mother died young, and Jane probably grew up with the fear at the back of her mind that her fate might follow her mother's.
In the comics, Jane Foster also goes to Valhalla when she dies as Mighty Thor. She's granted entry by Odin as a reward for saving all of Asgard, and similar to the events in Thor: Love and Thunder, it's an instance of these rules of entry for Valhalla being broken.
Although Gorr surprisingly found redemption in the moments before his death, there is very little reason to believe that he would have been accepted into Valhalla.
In the post-credits scene, she arrives in Valhalla where she's greeted by none other than Heimdall (Idris Elba), who was killed by Thanos back in “Avengers: Infinity War.” The two share a sweet moment, and then the movie ends.
Marvel Studios has yet to confirm whether Jane Foster will return to the MCU after Thor: Love and Thunder. But the promise of her having some lease of life after death in Valhalla certainly lends to the idea that the doors have yet to close. Perhaps she may yet join Tessa Thompson's hero as another Valkyrie.
