James "Jimmy" Olsen is one of the protagonists of DC Comics' Superman comics. He is the best friend of Superman (Clark Kent) and Lois Lane and an associate of Supergirl. He is also distantly related to Superman's arch-enemy, Lex Luthor.
Lex Luthor, Jr. is the name of several characters from the DC Universe. The most notable of them is Alex Luthor; the son of Lex Luthor and Lois Lane from Earth-Three.
In the pilot, Olsen reveals that he knows Kara's secret, and knows that she is Superman's cousin. Superman actually suggested that Olsen move to National City to keep an eye on her. Unlike his comic-book counterpart for most of his history, Olsen also knows Clark's secret.
Lena Luthor is the name of two fictional comic book characters in DC Comics. The first one, introduced in 1961, is the sister of Superman's nemesis Lex Luthor, while the second one, introduced in 2000, is Lex Luthor's daughter who is named after her aunt. Jimmy gains the power of elasticity in "The E-L-A-S-T-I-C Lad" from Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen via an experimental serum. The change works out so well for him that he dons the title Elastic Lad and even gets inducted into the Legion of Super-Heroes as an honorary member.

One of the new changes made to original canon was to reimagine Jimmy Olsen as Black, aligning him with DC Comics' recent iterations of the timeless character.
As first reported by Variety, Skyler Gisondo will play Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen, and Sara Sampaio will play Lex Luthor's assistant-turned-love interest, Eve Teschmacherr.
In Smallville season 7, Grant Gabriel (Michael Cassidy) is revealed to be a clone of Lex's deceased brother Julian. Julian was originally killed as an infant by Lex's mother Lillian (Alison Down), who saw it as a mercy killing to spare Julian the cruel, Machiavellian parenting methods of Lionel Luthor (John Glover).

After seven seasons of portraying Lex Luthor on Smallville, Michael Rosenbaum decided to move on with his acting career, so he departed from the show. In 2011, Rosenbaum agreed to appear in the series finale and expressed that his return for the final episode was for the fans.
The official reason, according to Landes, was that he looked too similar to Dean Cain (on the DVD commentary for the pilot of Lois & Clark, Dean Cain has admitted that he and Landes looked like they could be related).
In most versions of his history, Olsen was present when Superman made his public debut and has been friends with both the Man of Steel and his alter ego Clark Kent ever since.
