Gao was with Daredevil and Elektra in the caves below Midland Circle when it collapsed in The Defenders. She was the last member of The Hand standing after the fight and explosion, and we never saw her die. No on-screen death combined with the final scene of Iron Fist implies we'll be seeing Gao again sometime soon.
Gao has been alive since at least the 17th Century, thanks to a regenerative elixir made from the bones of K'un-Lun dragons that granted her and the other founding members of the Hand immortality.

In the first season of Daredevil, Matt Murdock finds Madame Gao's warehouse full of blind drug workers, but the masked vigilante receives a mysterious answer when he asks the evil drug lord why they are blind. She states that the workers have faith in something that is beyond the vigilante's imagination.

The main character, Matt Murdock (Daredevil), became blind after an incident involving a chemical spill when he was a child. The accident gave him superhuman senses and the ability to navigate the world in a different way.

K'un Lun was one of the domains located on God Emperor Doom's Battleworld and its baron was Emperor Shang-Chi, who succeeded his father, Emperor Zheng Zu. This domain consisted of a world where martial artists actively trained and fought against one another, similar to the original mystical city of K'un-Lun.
