A theory posted on Reddit explains that Pelle's crowning at the end of the film, along with the elder's speech, point at him becoming the new oracle – which would also mean that he's one of the inbred people in the commune.
For all his flaws, he seems to genuinely love Dani and want the best for her. He is there for her when she goes through her severe anxiety attacks. Pelle is nothing but affectionate to Dani, he always sketches her in his sketchbook and even draws her as the May Queen. He remembers her birthday and gives her a present.
Throughout Midsommar, it's clear that Pelle is attracted to Dani, and he's the only one who remembers Dani's birthday while in Sweden, with Christian forgetting about it, and even kisses Dani when she becomes the new May Queen.
It's heavily implied that Pelle's own parents were sacrificed in their own time, as Pelle tells Dani that they burned in a fire when he was a child. However, having brought the May Queen to Hårga, Pelle is spared from being sacrificed and instead given the highest honors.

It is alluded that Pelle and Dani are destined to be together based on the fact that they are an astrological match. Not only is she the ideal person to become the Harga's queen, she is also the ideal mate for Pelle.
In the script, the kiss is actually described as a “blunt, passionate kiss.” While so much of the Pelle/Dani ship is not scripted, here it is plain: Pelle, now wearing the Wunjo rune, is Dani's wish for an understanding, loving partner come true, and for the minute she can be spared from the procession, he is kissing ...
A smile breaks across her face as Aster describes in the screenplay, "She... surrendered to a joy known only by the insane. She has lost herself completely, and she is finally free. It is horrible and it is beautiful."
It's once her relationship is truly over that Dani grins as she witnesses Christian burn to death in Midsommar's ending. Pugh argues that Dani is disoriented and unaware of what's actually happening, while Aster believes it's a sign that her sanity is slipping away.

As she's wheeled into the building, her body is blue, wet, and covered in seaweed. It is obvious that Connie was drowned by the Hårga members and left in the water until they needed to use her for the appropriate ritual.
The Hårga's support of Maja is remarkable. After the encounter, she is pictured in a red-lined dress, a striking change from her previous white linen. She wears bright red lipstick, seeming to mark her as a sexual being, an honored member of the community. She is without a partner because the group is her partner.
Josh later learns that the village's ritualistic practices are based on paintings made by a member named Ruben (Levente Puczko-Smith), a deformed boy who was the product of incest but is viewed as some kind of seer. Josh asks to take pictures of Ruben's drawings, but he is forbidden.
What was the point of the inbred child in Midsommar?
The oracle, Ruben, who has physical and cognitive limitations, is briefly shown throughout the film, and is explained that he's the product of incest, as he's “unclouded” and thus more open to receiving the word of the gods.
Death. When he tried to take a photo of the village's sacred text, he was bludgeoned to death and had his leg placed in a garden by a man (most likely Ulf), wearing a skin mask of Mark's face, who was killed after urinating on a sacred tree.
Adding to the list of Midsommar hidden details is that Simon's method of death was based on a real Norse execution ritual known as the Blood Eagle. It's made even more terrifying because Simon was alive while it happened and was still alive when Christian found him.
On the other hand, while Terri is explicitly diagnosed with bipolar disorder to explain her erratic, and eventually homicidal, behavior, Dani is left without a diagnosis. However, we are given hints at a life of dealing with some form of mental illness.

She catches sight of the ritual through the temple's keyhole: Middle-aged naked women are writhing and singing around her boyfriend mid-coitus. One old woman goes as far as to push on his ass cheeks to intensify the thrusting. Dani, like any reasonable person, throws up immediately and flees to the sleeping quarters.
The first four victims (Mark, Josh, Simon, and Connie) were outsiders lured to them by Pelle and Ingemar, while the next four (the two elderly members who killed themselves in the beginning, plus volunteers Ingemar and Ulf) are from the commune.
Dani's sister Terri (Klaudia Csányi) loses her ongoing battle with her mental health and decides to take her own life, filling the Ardor home with carbon monoxide. This doesn't only result in the death of Terri, but her and Dani's parents too.
Ultimately, Dani becomes the May Queen she was always destined to become and sacrifices Christian to complete the mid-summer ritual. The most unexpected element in the film is not his death nor is it her being crowned the May Queen, it is actually how many times Aster overtly foreshadowed these events.
