Sauron is the titular main antagonist of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. He is a fallen Maia that became a devoted servant of Morgoth. Following Morgoth's defeat, Sauron took his place as the Dark Lord and assumed command of his army.
Melkor, later known as Morgoth, is the overarching antagonist of the television series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. He is a fallen Vala that became the Dark Lord during the First Age and sought out to conquer all of Middle-earth, terrorizing and destroying many civilizations in the process.
The Dark Lord unveiled himself in dramatic fashion in the Season 1 finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which reveals that Middle-earth's Big Bad has been disguising himself as none other than Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) this whole time.
Although Sauron's origins are angelic, he becomes captivated by the idea of ordering things as per his own will, which might be a possible reason behind him being lured by Morgoth, a Dark Lord who corrupted countless souls and waged wars against Elves and Men throughout the First Age.

Finally Sauron came out to fight Elendil and Gil-galad face to face. When Elendil fell, his sword Narsil broke beneath him. Isildur took up the hilt-shard of Narsil and cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand, vanquishing Sauron.
Sauron is an expert manipulator and likely sees Galadriel and her power as an asset. In line with the old adage, "Keep your friends close; keep your enemies closer," he'd rather have her on his side than against him.
The outcome is that Galadriel is able to penetrate Sauron's mind and issues a single command "Go back to the void from whence you came!" Unable to resist her any longer, Sauron screams and flees with the Nine.
Galadriel asked if he really meant to save Middle-earth or rule it, and when he could not tell the difference, she refused to join him and planned to kill him but was thrown into the water.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 concluded shortly after Galadriel learned that Halbrand had actually been Sauron in disguise, but she didn't tell anyone.
He genuinely does wish to heal the world, to right the wrongs of the past, to save all of the beings and creatures from war and greed and devastation, but in achieving total dominion of the world, he cannot see that is the exact evil he sees and wants to cull in everyone else.
Because of his age, Adar would have had a prominent place in Morgoth's army, but he was still subservient to Sauron. So, when Sauron took over, Adar became his servant until Sauron started to experiment on Orcs. Because they were his children, Adar rebelled, and to his knowledge, they killed Sauron.
In the final minutes, Sauron confesses that he's been manipulating Galadriel since they first met — using her as a way to get back to Middle-earth to fight back against his enemies in the Southlands and indirectly form the land of Mordor but also to get closer to Celebrimbor and the Elven smiths.
When Halbrand and Galadriel captured Adar, Adar seemed not to recognize Halbrand as Sauron. Adar also claimed to have killed Sauron after watching Sauron experiment on the orcs, whom Adar sees as his children. It's possible Adar was pretending not to recognize Sauron as part of a ruse.
Morgoth, the first to reign terror upon Middle-earth, was more powerful than Sauron and commanded an army of dragons and Balrogs. While both Morgoth and Sauron were cunning, Morgoth's rule and terror lasted longer and his corruption spread further, making him more formidable in the Lord of the Rings universe.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Vickers shared why he believes Sauron offered to make Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) his Queen in the Season 1 finale. "I think [Sauron] thinks that if [Galadriel] with him, he can affect his designs faster," Vickers said. "That's why he loved Morgoth.
Additionally, while he was in his weakened state, Galadriel could hold him off through the power of will alone. However, if Sauron had his One Ring and faced off in a battle against Galadriel, it's unlikely that there would be much she could do.
At some point prior to The Rings of Power, Sauron conjured a fresh physical form. He then seized the Southlands' crest from its last known king (who died 1000 years prior to the TV show's timeline) and assumed the identity "Halbrand."
Thus, Galadriel's dark form in Jackson's The Lord of the Rings personified what would have occurred had the Lady of Lothlorien given in to temptation and taken the One Ring for herself. She would have succumbed to evil because the Ring was indomitable, even with her power.
She also resisted being offered the ring of power by Frodo following his vision in the mirror of Galadriel, an immense test given the ring's seductive powers. Yet Gandalf's power level exceeds even that of Galadriel, as shown by his rebirth in the Two Towers.
The majority of her powers come from her Ring of Power, Nenya, the Ring of Water. The ring, also known by the names the White Ring and the Ring of Adamant, is one of the three Rings of Power given to the Elves of Middle-earth in the Second Age.
For those that haven't read Tolkien's work, it's easy to see why many audiences suspect Gandalf and Galadriel are in love. After all, many of their interactions in The Hobbit trilogy practically scream romance. However, their relationship remains purely platonic in Tolkien's source material.
Sauron's only interest was an order or to work upon the world in an orderly state, even in the beginning, Mairon really had no love interest. Despite his deceptive attributes, he was a trickster and a seducer, he had little care for attempting to love someone.
Together they managed to mortally wound Sauron, but the fight cost them their lives. This is when Isildur, son of Elendil, took his father's sword and cut the Ring from Sauron's hand, dealing the final blow. And so to summarize, while Sauron was stronger with the One Ring, he was up against far stronger forces.
