Why is Charlie Sheen's last name Sheen and not Estevez?
Though Sheen's decision to go by Charlie was simply to avoid confusion with an uncle also named Carlos, when he became an actor, he took on the last name Sheen to follow in the footsteps of his father Martin Sheen. On the other hand, his brother Emilio Estevez kept his birth name.
He is the son of actor Martin Sheen and the older brother of Charlie Sheen. Estevez started his acting career in the 1980s and was one of a group of actors known as the Brat Pack. He is notable for starring in The Outsiders (1983), The Breakfast Club (1985), and Wisdom (1986).

Do Emilio and Charlie have the same mother?
His mother, Janet Sheen (née Templeton), was a former New York art student who had met Emilio's father right after he had moved to Manhattan. Martin and Janet had three other children, Charlie Sheen, Renée Estevez, and Ramon Estevez, all of whom became actors.
In a 2020 interview with The Guardian, Estevez said his father "earned his name," and he hadn't. The actor's IMDb biography states that Estevez also thought the set of double "E" was "pretty." Despite the refusal to adopt his father's stage name, Estevez was still successful in the film industry.
Sheen was born Carlos Estévez on September 3, 1965, in New York City, the youngest son of actor Martin Sheen (whose real name is Ramón Estévez) and artist Janet Templeton. His paternal grandparents were emigrants from Galicia (Spain) and Ireland, respectively.
