A bit of sexual talk. No drugs smoking or alcohol is in this movie at all. The movie itself is decent and pretty watchable, and is a lot better than the grudge 1. Overall, I think that this is appropriate for 11 years old or older.
Parents should know this film is very scary. Tons of disturbing imagery but very minimal bloodshed. A couple is shown in bed together and there is no language (I think). I suggest this movie for teens ages 14-16 depending on maturity level.
Long and short, watch it first. If it scares/disturbs you then for the love of sanity DO NOT LET YOUR CHILD WATCH THIS OR ANY FILM THAT MAKES YOU UNEASY. A few months shy of 20 years and this film is still embedded in my mind.

Is The Grudge creepy?
From the very first scene, which is appropriately bizarre, to the last, 'The Grudge' is a very creepy movie and I can't quite put my finger on why. It is successfully unnerving partly due to the eerie and tense atmosphere that surround the whole story.
The show is officially rated TV-MA, or not necessarily suitable for kids 17 and under. Again, you know your child and what they can handle best, but just like with R-rated movies, there's a lot to consider about what your child will see and think while watching a thriller like this.
SEX/NUDITY 4 - A woman in bed invites a man to join her, he does, they kiss, she climbs on top of him (they are both clothed in lounge wear), they continue to kiss, then roll over, and he begins to lift her top (we see a bit of her bare abdomen). A woman showers and we see her bare shoulders and arms.
Watched on its own, "The Grudge 3" is a disappointment; viewed after a better horror film - such as "Saw VI," also released in 2009 - and it teaches valuable lessons. Content collapsed. Violence, gore, cursing in predictable sequel.
The little boy-ghost has the eerie habit of appearing everywhere (really EVERYWHERE) just staring at you, whereas the woman-ghost produces the most disgusting but effectively disturbing sounds ever! "Ju-On: The Grudge" may not make the slightest bit of sense, but at least it will frighten you a couple of times.
Lots of bloody, shocking death scenes with several decayed corpses shown throughout the film. Two decayed corpses are shown. One is of a woman, who has been dead for months, in the drivers seat of a car that had crashed into a tree.

11-13 year olds may be better equipped to navigate the scary movie scene on some level but each child is different. If your child watches something that they say is not scary to them but then starts coming to you at night wanting to sleep closer to you or is having nightmares let their behavior speak for them.
In the US, there is a PG-13 rated version of the film which was shown in theaters, and Takashi Shimizu's unrated director's cut of the film which was released on DVD, along with the PG-13 rated one.
The iconic staircase sequence is the scariest scene in the entire film. The music, the tension, and Kayako crawling down the stairs covered in blood and bending and contorting her body in unnatural ways all add to the terror of the scene.
A dead man is shown lying on the ground in a pool of blood, with blood smeared all over the walls around him and a fork stabbed into his neck. The man's wife, who is implied to have killed him, is shown cutting off her own fingers with a kitchen knife (lots of blood is shown and the act is shown up close).

The reason why Kayako makes that croaking sound is because when she was murdered by her husband, he snapped her neck. She was still alive, but was unable to speak and could only make that noise, hence why she uses it to scare her victims.
Both of these films can be counted on for a scary good time. Unfortunately, for many critics and viewers alike, the major scares were too few and far between in “The Grudge”, and as such, the more well-balanced horror of “The Ring” earns it the win, and with that, the competition.
