Witnessing this fight, Kratos and Mimir note that this version of Jormungandr didn't come from Midgard, confirming Atreus's suspicions that it is indeed the snake he revived back in Ironwood. However, he declines to explain it all to his father and Mimir at the time due to the more pressing matter of stopping Odin.
As it turns out, Atreus's journey sets all the pieces in motion. The Jormungandr you see battling Thor in Ragnarok is actually the big snake that Atreus (Loki) infuses with a giant's soul when in Jotunheim as it escapes the lair of Angrboda's grandmother.
Jörmungandr, or rather his younger version which has now grown exponentially, is later seen fighting off Thor with Ragnarök in Asgard. When Kratos and Mimír observed that it didn't come from Midgard, Atreus knew it was the one he revived earlier, but he held off explaining as they were in the middle of the battle.
While in Ironwood, Atreus saves a snake from the giantess Gryla by sealing one of the Jotnar souls into its body which causes it to grow at a rapid rate. Jormungandr is not seen again by the pair, and it is presumed that he has returned to his resting place in Midgard.
According to the Prose Edda, Odin took Loki's three children by Angrboða – the wolf Fenrir, the goddess Hel, and the serpent Jörmungandr – and removed them from Asgard (the world of the Æsir). The serpent Jörmungandr was tossed into the great ocean that encircles Midgard.
Bang: Jormugandr's abilities to alter his size on any environment and travel at any location by his wormholes gives him a speed and long-range advantage, however when it comes tobrute force, extreme firepower, regenerative abilities and indominable force. Godzilla got him beat.
Kratos and Atreus encounter Jormungandr multiple times on their quest to Jotunheim, and oddly enough, Jormungandr seems to hold some sort of familiarity with Atreus despite the boy never seeing the creature before, and Atreus eventually learns to communicate with the World Serpent in his ancient tongue.
In Norse mythology, Jormungandr is one of Loki's sons that destined to fight Thor when Ragnarok comes. Nobody knows the exact size of this monster, but surely bigger than Cronos. So that's a few giant monsters in God of War 4.
Angrboda, Grýla and Sinmara are the last known living survivors of their race, although Atreus and Týr are half-giants due to their mothers being frost giants. Thrúd also carries their blood due to her grandmother being a frost giant.
Who are Loki's offspring? With the female giant Angerboda (Angrboda: “Distress Bringer”), Loki produced the progeny Hel, the goddess of death; Jörmungand, the serpent that surrounds the world; and Fenrir (Fenrisúlfr), the wolf. Loki is also credited with giving birth to Sleipnir, Odin's eight-legged horse.
Jormungand was the second eldest child between Loki the Trickster and the giantess Angrboda. Kidnapped by the gods, he was cast into the waters that surround Midgard. There he laid until he grew so large that he ate large whales and was able to wrap himself around the world and bite his own tail.
God of War Ragnarok has its share of twists and turns. One of the most significant points in the game is when we find out that Tyr is fake, and is actually being impersonated by Odin. After completing the game, you can continue your search for the real Tyr, who has also been imprisoned by Odin.
He was also visibly hurt after Atreus mocked his complaints about his brother. Thankfully, Sindri didn't hold a grudge and was able to forgive the boy. The two then develop a very close bond, becoming "partners" during the young giant's search for Týr.
When the gods burnt the giantess Angerbotha as a witch, Loki ate her heart and as a result became impregnated. He gave birth to three monstrous children who later threatened the world: the wolf Fenrir, the serpent Jormungand (the Midgard Serpent, or World Serpent), and the goddess Hel.
Another prominent theory was that Baldur blew the horn. Given that he was looking for Kratos and Atreus, it stands to reason that he would ask Jormungandr where they were. There are some complications with this theory, like the fact that Jormungandr hates the Aesir, so he likely wouldn't help Baldur.
Atreus does not die at the end of Ragnarok, though his ending is certainly a tearjerker. After learning of Faye's actions, Atreus tells Kratos that he must strike out on his own journey in order to restore the giants and return to his people.
In Norse mythology, Fenrir was a literal child of Loki and Angrboda. In the God of War series, Fenrir began as an ordinary wolf whose soul was transplanted into the body of the Helhound Garm, technically making Atreus his "creator".
If Angrboda is truly the one who blew the horn and summoned Jörmungandr in God of War, her reason for doing so is still unclear. However, at the end of the previous game Atreus' mother Fey is revealed to be a giant with the power of incredible foresight.
What happened to the original Jormungandr in God of War: Ragnarok?
He did not die but was sent back in time. That was how we met him in GoW 2018. That was the version of him that had all ready lost to Thor. So that means for part of this game, the Younger Jormungandr and the older Jormungandr both existed at the same time.
The genus contains a single species, J. walhallaensis, known from a nearly-complete skull and partial skeleton. Jormungandr was a medium-sized mosasaur, at around 6–8 metres (20–26 ft) long, and its skeletal anatomy exhibits a mix of features seen in both basal and derived mosasaurines.
Just as he finished an illustration of the monster that brought his reign to an end, Mount Vesuvius erupted and Godzilla emerged from it in a blast of atomic fire, killing Zeus and preserving him in a position of utter terror and disbelief for thousands of years.
Godzilla may have the superior intelligence, hax, and a stronger form, and he may have much more feats onscreen, but in terms of physicality itself, the Kraken... is simply far too powerful.
