There's also LGBTQ+ representation among the teen characters and their families (same-sex romantic relationships, a two-dad family, etc.). And it's notable that Nick's storyline isn't about his sexuality but rather about how he uses his grief to fuel change via activism.
While the violence isn't really graphic, it brings huge emotions of fear, depression, and anger. Expect screaming, some blood, loud gunshots, and more. There's also some potentially upsetting deaths that may be too much for kids - -and even some teens.
However, she does not possess this psychological abnormality. As portrayed in the film, Vada exhibits thoughts and behaviors that are not typical of an eleven year old girl. At first glance, she may seem mentally sick to the viewer. Upon further examination however, it is clear to see that is not the case.
During this film we see young Vada begin to grow up. Unfortunately, an unexpected death will either drive her back into her previous loneliness, or give her the strength to tell the ones she loves that she cares about them. You see, My Girl isn't just about death in the literal sense. It is also about the death of innocence, or the painful transition from late childhood and into early adulthood. It is about love and loss, and dealing with both at the same time.
