They are simply from the same species. The name of this species has never been revealed since "Star Wars" creator George Lucas wanted to give Yoda a sense of mystery. Grogu's physical appearance is similar to Yoda, the legendary Jedi Master from the "Star Wars" films.
Grogu is said to be 50 years old. The Mandalorian takes place a mere five years after Return of the Jedi when Yoda died. While Grogu may not actually be "Baby Yoda," his story bears a striking resemblance to that of the former Grand Jedi Master's. Until disproved, Grogu could still be related to Yoda. One theory states that Grogu is Yoda's son who he abandoned as part of his process of foregoing emotional attachments to become a Jedi.
Coupled with the fact that the only other members of his species to have been seen in Star Wars canon were also especially powerful Jedi, this may begin to explain Grogu's true significance. Grogu may be the child of Yoda and Yaddle, potentially conceived purely to help preserve their incredibly rare species.
While fans don't know the state of Grogu's well-being in the sequel trilogy, his ties to Mandalore might explain why Kylo Ren doesn't kill him. It's likely Grogu stays with Din Djarin and the Mandalorians, and never returns to embark on his training with Luke.

If I didn't miscalculate, I'd say Grogu was born in the same year as Anakin: Grogu is 50 years old in "The Mandalorian" which takes place about 9 years after A New Hope, meaning he was 41 years old during ANH, which would make him 22 years old during ROTS which is the same age Anakin/Vader was at at that time.
Grogu's mother is either Yaddle or some other female member of Yoda's species, but he has no father. Because just like Anakin, Grogu was born off the Will of the Force, with no dad, and that explains why he's so powerful at an age that's considered an infant for Yoda's species.
