Did Daniel actually join Cobra Kai?

In the All-Valley Tournament, it was Daniel LaRusso who famously won by beating Johnny Lawrence. However, that wasn't the only competition that Daniel won. In The Karate Kid III, he went up against Mike Barnes in the All-Valley Tournament and took first place trophy home once more.
Despite Johnny's behavior, Ali and Daniel began a relationship. But the lovey-dovey couple broke up on prom night, as Daniel relayed to Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid Part II.
Daniel used this training to protect himself and others, winning two consecutive karate championships and beating highly aggressive opponents that challenged him. Years after his initial training, Daniel married Amanda Steiner and they had two children, Samantha and Anthony.

Sadly, it seems that Miguel dated Tory only because he was on the rebound following his breakup with Sam and clearly wasn't over her. It didn't help that Tori didn't come to see him in the hospital after the fall that left him paralyzed - as opposed to Sam, who did - which led to their breakup.
Ali Mills, M.D. (formerly Ali Mills Schwarber) is the high school love interest of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence in the 1984 The Karate Kid film. She returns to the San Fernando Valley in Season 3 of Cobra Kai as a soon-to-be divorced adult, and reconnects with her old flings.
While this freed Daniel up to then develop feelings for Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita) during his visit to Okinawa, the reasons he gives for the breakup seemed out-of-character and quite heartless for Ali, who was portrayed as being sweet and kind in the first movie.
Amanda LaRusso (née Steiner) is a main character in Cobra Kai. She is the wife of Daniel LaRusso and the mother of Samantha and Anthony LaRusso. She is a devoted wife and mother, and the voice of reason after Daniel's rivalry with Johnny Lawrence is reignited.
Season 2. Johnny tells his top student Miguel that Laura passed away right before Robby was born, and his depression over this is what led him to abandon his family.
A huge problem of his in the 3rd movie, was that he feared that he was becoming a monster because of his training under Terry Silver. He broke a kid's nose in a fight and felt extremely bad about it. So even if he weren't afraid of Mike Barnes, he'd still be very non-confrontational like he was in the third film.
What does Johnny say to Daniel at the end of Karate Kid?
At the end of the fight between Daniel and Johnny in Karate Kid, a defeated Johnny hands the trophy to Daniel and says, "You're alright, Larusso". The line was supposed to prove that the former never hated the latter, or had at least grown some respect for him.
CK Season 5 is a callback to Karate Kid 3, where Terry Silver tricked Daniel into joining Cobra Kai for a time and made him angry, aggressive and off-balance. Daniel separated from Mr. Miyagi and traveled down a dark path, until he eventually saw the light and returned to the teachings of his wise master.
Chozen's easy win creates little confidence in Johnny's chances, but that's largely because he and Daniel are seen as equals. But if Johnny were to somehow defeat Chozen, he'd erase that narrative, and simultaneously make a solid case for himself as Cobra Kai's best fighter.
