Even though Deadpool and Thanos never met, Thanos considers him to be a rival because he knows Death prefers Deadpool's love over his. Deadpool even had a fantasy about these two together. Thanos made a brief cameo appearance in an after-credits scene in The Avengers.
The story goes with Thanos and Deadpool both being in love with Death. Thanos was jealous and cursed Deadpool so he could never die and they couldn't be together. Wow what a romance story with a tragic twist! My favorite Marvel continuity story.
Months later, T-Ray, now an agent of Thanos resurrects Deadpool, who has been killed in a fight with Weapon X, using an artifact Thanos gave him to create many copies of Deadpool. Thanos is jealous of Deadpool's relationship with Death and T-Ray is to "curse him with immortality" so that he may never see Death again.
Thanos was truly driven mad by Deadpool. Deadpool had what Thanos always desperately craved, the attention and affection of Death. When he was experimented on as part of the Weapon X Program in Deadpool/Death '98, he was near-death on many occasions, where he met Death and developed feelings for the cosmic being.
Simply put, the only way Wade and her could be together was for him to die. Thanos was furious and cursed Deadpool with immortality so he could never be with her again.
Did Deadpool disappear when Thanos snapped his fingers?
Deadpool survived the Infinity War snap because he wasn't technically in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the time. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige was asked about the Merc with a Mouth and jokingly gave the answer that certain hardcore McU fans have been wondering about since April of this year.

In 2023, the victims of the Snap were resurrected by the Avengers, after they went back in time to alternate timelines to acquire their own set of Infinity Stones.
Deadpool decides to see Black Talon on Taíno Island about the situation. He does not know what is going on either, but he does reveal to Wade that he has been cursed by Thanos which leads Deadpool to the assumption that Thanos must have kidnapped Death. Therefore, Deadpool plans on rescuing and freeing Death.
