Disney's Frozen 2 features Elsa (Idina Menzel) hearing a mysterious voice calling to her throughout the movie, and despite confusion among audiences it has been definitively confirmed it belongs to her mother, Iduna (Evan Rachel Wood).
The mysterious siren call Elsa began hearing three years into her reign was that of her mother. The call led her to Ahtohallan, where Elsa was able to discover her true calling and the truth about the curse placed on the Enchanted Forest.
So because Elsa is the gift of Iduna's good deed, the fifth spirit who was chosen to rectify the evil deeds committed by her grandfather, it is why the voice calling to her is that of her mother when she did the first right thing by saving Agnarr.
In Frozen 2, Elsa's voice changed slightly to reflect the character's growth and evolution since the events of the first film. Idina Menzel worked closely with the filmmakers and the voice over agency to ensure that her performance captured the changes in Elsa's character.
Kristen Bell (Anna) said simply, "that's up to Elsa." Jonathan Groff, who voices Kristoff, said, “I love that Elsa, unlike any other princess, is not defined by any kind of romantic relationship—that she's just an independent woman."

Who is Elsa's girlfriend in Frozen 3?
Honeymaren, a member of the Northuldra tribe who was trapped in the Enchanted Forest by the curse, could return for Frozen 3 as Elsa's girlfriend based on the two characters' shared chemistry.
On February 8, 2023, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Frozen 3 is in the works, along with Toy Story 5 and Zootopia 2. While news of a third Frozen film was a welcome one, we have yet to hear more details about the movie or see a trailer. Here's everything we know about Frozen 3.
Anna's parents rush her to the sacred realm, where discussions with the trolls reveal that Elsa was born with her powers/ depigmentation and deafness, rather than them being due to illness or accident. Grand Pabbie troll heals Anna but removes her memories of Elsa's magic.
When they showed what was finished of the film to a Story Trust group several months prior to release, many were still confused about who the voice was supposed to belong to. It was after that the decision was made to fully commit to the voice calling to Elsa being that of her mother, Iduna.
When Elsa's ice palace is under attack, the colour of her ice changes depending on her current emotion. For instance, the ice is yellow when she combats Duke Westleton and his soldiers. However, the ice becomes purple or turns into a dark colour when she struggles to control her magic. The colour reflects her fear.
According to Myth: A Frozen Tale, the fifth spirit is also known as the “human spirit”, but it is assumed to have been represented by humanity in general before Elsa and Anna's births.
She died and was reborn to take on her true form like has happened in so many stories before. With that transformation, Frozen 2 has made Elsa an immortal spirit now. Like how Frozen 2's other four spirits appear as animals but more than just that, Elsa still appears human but is more than just that.
Because of the kingdom's negative feelings towards the Northuldra, Iduna kept her heritage a secret for many years, though she finally told him everything shortly before their deaths. Agnarr and Iduna's oldest daughter (Elsa) was born with the power to control ice and snow.
While they're in there, Anna and Elsa also discover another twist: They're half-Northuldran. Their mother, it turns out, was a tribe member who saved their father during the battle, escaped with him out of the forest, and later married him.
Under this stress, Elsa accidentally injures Anna with her powers. Their parents, the King and Queen of Arendelle, take Anna to the magical trolls who heal her but also alter her memories so that she has no knowledge of Elsa's powers. This fright led the King and Queen to isolate both Elsa and Anna from the kingdom.
Elsa is the fifth spirit, but only because her mother passed the power down through her first child's birth. Elsa cannot be the fifth spirit shown in the forest at the time when her father is still a child. However, Queen Iduna can be.
Critically, Elsa isn't the movie's villain. Her love for Anna, and Anna's love for her, is what saves the day by the end of the film, and she learns to revel in her powers once she discovers that she can control them through love (awwwww).
Elsa awoke the spirits after she created hundreds of ice runes all over Arendale at the finale of her 'Into the Unknown' performance. She did this unwillingly and obviously without previous training, invoking the Spirits and triggering their anger.
Elsa is never properly identified as asexual or aromantic, something that would help immensely to increase visibility and awareness. Considering Disney's record with LGBT characters (remember the underwhelming 'gay moment' in Beauty and the Beast?)
Frozen 3 could also naturally bring Elsa and Honeymaren together as a couple since they both live in the same location by the end of Frozen 2: the Enchanted Forest. After Elsa discovers she's the fifth spirit, she finds her calling as the mediator between the natural world and civilization.
Moana 2 does not have an official release date, but it will likely be announced in the future. As of early October 2023, Disney has not officially announced the development of Moana 2.
