She introduces herself as Glinda and explains that the true Wicked Witch is her half-sister, Evanora. Years ago, she poisoned their father, the King, so she could rule Oz uncontested. Before he died, the King predicted that a powerful Wizard would come and take his place.
The show is about two young witches: Elphaba, whose skin is green, and Glinda, who is blonde and beautiful. They dislike each other at first but soon form an unlikely bond. The musical follows them from their girlhood friendship and explains how Elphaba became the Wicked Witch and Glinda became the Good Witch.

Why is there no witch of the south in Wizard of Oz?
In the original books, Ozma, queen of Oz, explains to the Wizard how four wicked witches took over Oz. One for each direction. But Glinda conquered the bad witch in the south and the other good witch conquered Mombi, the wicked witch of the north.
As the story continues, audiences learn that Galinda changed her name to Glinda in order to appease Prince Fiyero, whom she had a crush on. She also bullied Elphaba before they became friends, which only happened because the latter got her in the magic course.
She believes that Oscar is the wizard prophesied to defeat the seemingly evil Glinda from the Dark Forest, developing an attraction to him in the process. Evanora gradually manipulates Theodora into thinking Oscar has betrayed her for Glinda, ushering her transformation into the Wicked Witch of the West.
In the hit musical, Nessarose uses a wheelchair due to complications during her birth. Elphaba eventually uses a spell that allows her to walk, though it inadvertently causes life-changing consequences for her and Boq.
With Elphaba missing and presumed dead, Nessarose eventually inherits her great-grandfather's title of Eminent Thropp. During her reign in Munchkinland, she secedes the region from the rest of Oz, and becomes the sole ruler of the newly formed free state nation, the “Eminence of Munchkinland”.

She demands the Munchkins reveal who killed her sister, not long after Dorothy's arrival in Oz. She is described by Glinda the Good Witch of the North, not the South as in the book, as "worse than the other one". She actively seeks revenge against Dorothy for killing her sister, even though it was "accidental".

She remains nameless in the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the movie but other movies & authors have given her a name, as well as some TV shows as well.
Wicked tells the backstory of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and what happened before Dorothy arrived in the land of Oz, although the musical serves as a better prequel to the popular 1939 film than to L. Frank Baum's original book, and is therefore not considered canon.
Bellatrix Wicked is the Rebelliously Royal daughter of the Wicked Witch of the West. Though she claims to look forward to her destiny and anticipates being a feared character in Oz, she wishes to earn her own reputation and certainly doesn't want to be bested by a measly bucket of water.

Elphaba is also unusual in that she is apparently allergic to water, and avoids touching it at all times, never crying or bathing. She cleans herself by rubbing oil into her skin. She has a power that she cannot control.
Elphaba is so worried about having been cursed by Madame Morrible, that she falls into this predestined fate while trying to run from it. She becomes evil as she tries to run from it. So was she always born to be evil? Does her story prove that there is no way to escape the destiny that is laid before you?
