Klingon Chancellor As one of the most prominent military leaders in the war, Martok gained immense popularity in the Empire for his near-heroic exploits against the Dominion.
Earning a commission as an officer in the Klingon Defense Force, Martok continued to prove himself and advance, ultimately ascending to the rank of general. Abducted by the Dominion, he was replaced by a Changeling, who while posing as Martok, attempted to trigger a war between the Federation and the Empire.
Martok's first appearances on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (in "The Way of the Warrior, Parts I and II" and "Apocalypse Rising") were actually the Changeling infiltrator posing as Martok. The real Martok did not appear onscreen until "In Purgatory's Shadow".
Gowron's final appearance in Star Trek was in the Deep Space Nine seventh season episode "Tacking into the Wind" where he is killed by Worf after the Klingon Chancellor displays some increasingly dishonorable tactics towards Martok.

Does Gowron ever blink?
It's been claimed, for example on Reddit, that Gowron never blinks, but he does in this episode, at 15:25. Tom Ormeny was credited as Klingon First Officer, but became a Name in the official Star Trek Customizable Card Game: Kromm.
Worf's son, Alexander, was also assigned to the Rotarran after joining the Klingon Defense Force. Though Worf was initially estranged by his now adult son, and skeptical of his son's desire to serve the Empire, he eventually reconciled with him, and his son joined the House of Martok as well.
It was never stated in canon how the changeling managed this, but Joseph Sisko once suggested that a way a changeling could beat the blood test was to kill a random civilian on the street, absorb the man's blood into itself and release it whenever it took part in a test. It is possible the Martok changeling did this.
When Gowron approaches to finish him off, Worf fatally stabs him with a piece of the broken bat'leth. By Klingon law, this makes Worf the new Chancellor.
With Duras dead and no other challengers present, Gowron is named Chancellor of the Empire. After the Klingons leave, Picard reprimands Worf for killing Duras.
In mid-2371, Martok, a highly respected general in the Klingon Empire, was replaced by a Changeling while hunting saber bear along Kang's Summit on Qo'noS. Following his capture, the real Martok was sent to Internment Camp 371.
He was briefly replaced by a Changeling, and spent at least a year in a Dominion internment camp. During this imprisonment, Martok loses an eye in one of his daily sparring matches with the Jem'Hadar.
Yar's half-Romulan daughter Sela explains in "Redemption" that several members of the Enterprise-C crew were captured by the Romulans when it returned through the rift, including Yar. A Romulan general offered to spare the crew's lives if she became his consort. After a year, Yar gave birth to Sela.

Bashir says he was held captive by the Changelings for around five weeks. Since he was wearing the old Starfleet uniform, this is meant to signify he was replaced before the Season 5 episode "Rapture," when the new uniforms made their TV debut.

René Auberjonois, who starred in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" as the shapeshifting Odo, died Sunday (Dec. 8) at age 79, a family member told The Guardian. Auberjonois died in his Los Angeles home as a result of metastatic lung cancer, his son Rèmy-Luc Auberjonois told the publication.
