The USS Franklin, as seen in Star Trek : Beyond, is something of an oddity. In design terms, it appears to reference the NX class Starship from Enterprise.

Speculation abounded about the ship's disappearance, with theories ranging from it surrendering to the Romulans to being captured by a "giant green hand". However, the distance traveled suggested a wormhole displacement. The ship eventually crash landed on the planet Altamid.
With the founding of the Federation, Starfleet is folded into the new Federation Starfleet. The Columbia class (formerly NX-Class) ships, along with the Icarus (now renamed Daedalus) and Intrepid class ships, become the main workforce of the new Starfleet.
With the NX-01 Enterprise the “NX” stands for the class Name. Earth-Starfleet used double-letters to name the ship-classes. NX-Class, NV-Class and so on … In the United Federation of Planets Starfleet “NX” stood for experimental Starships - i.e. Prototypes.

Enterprise has appeared in several non-canon novels, which describe both its actions in the Romulan War and the vessel's final fate as a museum ship in orbit of Pluto.
The USS Franklin was not a lucky ship. In March 1945, off the Japanese mainland, the Essex-class aircraft carrier was hit by two 550-pound bombs that struck her flight deck and penetrated into the hangar deck.
USS Franklin (CV/CVA/CVS-13, AVT-8), nicknamed "Big Ben," was one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers built during World War II for the United States Navy, and the fifth US Navy ship to bear the name.
Gehres's actions during this time led him to be described as "a cautionary tale about the scourge of 'toxic leadership. '" He was relieved as captain of the Franklin in July 1945, four months before Japan's unconditional surrender, and reassigned as Commander, Naval Air Station San Diego.
With the commissioning of over two dozen larger and more advanced aircraft carriers by end of 1945, Enterprise was deemed surplus for the post-war needs of America's navy. She entered the New York Naval Shipyard on 18 January 1946 for deactivation and was decommissioned on 17 February 1947.
The first Enterprise ship, named USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), was destroyed in the motion picture "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock". The ship was badly damaged in the previous film, "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", and was deemed too expensive to repair.

Many of the crew had been blown overboard, driven off by fire, or had been killed or wounded, but the 106 officers and 604 enlisted who voluntarily remained on board saved their ship through sheer valor and tenacity.
Jefferies rejected 3, 6, 8, and 9 as "too easily confused" on screen; he eventually reasoned the Enterprise was the first vessel of Starfleet's 17th starship design, hence 1701. The rarest way for an aircraft carrier to be sunk was in a surface action against enemy warship gunfire, of which only three (debatably four) were sunk. HMS Glorious was en route ferrying aircraft to Norway in June 1940 when the German battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau found her within gun range and opened fire.
(ENT: "Marauders") Maximum speed was warp 5.2, and the NX-class was the first Earth vessel to achieve warp 5.06. (ENT: "Babel One", "Affliction") Standard cruising speed was warp 4.5. (ENT: "Broken Bow") A retrofitted Enterprise from an alternate timeline was theoretically able to reach warp 6.9 for short intervals.
Thus, warp 5, the maximum speed of the Enterprise, corresponds to about 200 times the speed of light. In the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "E²", the Enterprise will fly through an 11.6 light year long subspace corridor for a meeting with Degra. However, the Enterprise is thrown 117 years into the past.
