Master Shifu (voiced by Dustin Hoffman in the films and TV specials, and Fred Tatasciore in the TV series and video games) is a red panda, the headmaster of the Jade Palace, and the trainer of the Furious Five. He joined the palace when his father, the con artist Shirong, abandoned him there.
Master Shifu's species is a Red Panda, often confused due to his gray fur and age. Voiced by Dustin Hoffman, Shifu's connection to Po lies in both being Chinese natives. Despite confusion, Shifu's ties to Po create a unique parallel in the Kung Fu Panda franchise.
Po is the prophesied Dragon Warrior or Dragon Master, as well as the Warrior of Black and White. He is the adoptive son of Mr. Ping (a Chinese goose) and is one of Master Shifu's students.

Mr. Ping (James Hong) has raised Po as his adoptive father ever since he was a baby, while Li Shan (Bryan Cranston) is Po's biological father who first appeared in Kung Fu Panda 3.
Though Oogway invented kung fu and is often considered the greatest master, the franchise's titular character, Po Ping the Dragon Warrior, proves that he has surpassed even Oogway by the end of Kung Fu Panda 3. Po defeats Kai, who defeated Oogway, proving that he is the best kung fu master to have ever lived.
Tigress first lived at the Bao Gu Orphanage as a cub, where she received help in controlling her strength and temper from Shifu, who later took her in as his student. Over the years, she trained under Shifu's strict instruction, developing into a powerful fighter and forming a stern personality.
He stated that on the first day they met, Oogway saw the future of kung fu in Po, as well as the past. He sensed that Po would be the one to unite them both and become his true successor.
He is the first student, former adoptive son, and archenemy of Master Shifu, who acknowledged him of being the Dragon Warrior and eventually became evil when Master Oogway refused to give him the position, witnessing Shifu, not protesting against his denial; feeling abandoned and unworthy.
Po finds himself torn between his love of being Dragon Warrior and his feelings for Lu-Shi. Eventually he decides to marry her, while Crane begins organizing the ceremony. Tigress, meanwhile, is suspicious of Lu-Shi and confronts her, and discovers that her locket contains a picture of a male goat.
While returning to the Valley of Peace, Po chooses Zhen as his successor, much to Shifu's annoyance. Confident with his choice, Po and the Furious Five help train Zhen to become the next Dragon Warrior.

Master Po Ping (more commonly known simply as Po) is a fictional character and the main character of the Kung Fu Panda franchise. He is in his 20s. He is also giant panda who was improbably chosen as the "Dragon Warrior", the kung fu champion of the Valley of Peace in the first movie.
Shifu is a Chinese title meaning "skilled person", "teacher", or "master" that is most often used in English to address a teacher of Chinese martial arts. It is also romanized as sifu from Cantonese or sai hu from Hokkien.
Soon after the events kf kfp2, Po and Tigress had a long, heart to heart talk about how much they care about one another and this led them to eventually begin dating. They kept it a secret from the others, not wanting this to get awkward seeing as how they all live, train and work together.
It would make sense if she supported Po in his upcoming fight, but director Mike Mitchell revealed that she and the Furious Five would be on individual missions in the fourth film. Even though Tigress isn't in the trailer, she, along with her four comrades, will make a brief appearance in Kung Fu Panda 4.

Kai (voiced by J. K. Simmons) is a bull and the main antagonist of Kung Fu Panda 3. He was originally a friend and brother-in-arms to Grand Master Oogway, and was taught how to use chi by the pandas of the Secret Panda Village.
Tigress' skills have been relatively uneven since she's been defeated by the likes of Shen and Kai but has always bested Po. That mainly comes down to Po not really wanting to hurt Tigress, but it's also clear she's a cut above the rest based on pure skill.
