The Golden Age of Hollywood was a time period in the American film industry like no other. Starting just before the Great Depression in roughly 1927 and lasting through the entirety of the '60s, the Golden Age was a period of technical advancement and superb storytelling in Hollywood.
Specifically, it encompasses the “Big 5”: Paramount, RKO, MGM, Warner Brothers, and Fox, and the “Little 3”: Universal, United Artists, and Columbia. These major studios were able to maintain their profits by vertically integrating the entire movie process into their companies, from production to exhibition.
