This virus was created by the Post-Flares Coalition as a means of population control. With most human society bound to fall in a state of disarray after the apocalyptic 2136 Solar Flares, the Coalition took it upon themselves to create the Flare Virus to painlessly kill the survivors.
The Flare, medical name Virus VC321xb47 was a man-made disease created by the Post-Flares Coalition after the Sun Flares. It was a virus that slowly eats away the brain, eventually turning it's victims into bloodthirsty and irrational humans who would consider killing, torturing, and cannibalistic objectives.
In The Maze Runner world, Earth was overwhelmed by devasting solar flares and subsequent coronal mass ejections. The few survivors now also have to face the Flare—a terminal illness that might as well consume the rest of humanity—unless a cure is found.

Why is Thomas's blood the cure?
It is eventually revealed that Thomas' blood contains a unique enzyme that can destroy the Flare virus [2]. In "The Death Cure" film, Teresa, one of the main characters, uses a small fragment of Thomas' blood and observes under a microscope that it snaps a dark-red vein with the virus in it, effectively killing it [2].
In the movies, no. However, in the books his blood is not the cure to the Flare, it is merely that he is the “prime candidate” and that his brain has provided the best data that will be most helpful in creating a cure.
They discovered that Gally was immune to the Flare virus and decided to bring him to the Last City to help nurse him back to full health from the Griever sting and being stabbed by Minho. The ultimate reveal that Gally did not die in The Maze Runner was briefly set up in the original movie.
If Newt drew blood by biting Thomas, he may have been healed by his blood (assuming we're talking about the movies). However, he would have had to draw an extreme amount of blood to be saved, and gotten it into his (Newt's) blood stream. Thomas would not be affected, most likely.
Plus, with Thomas unable to get the "cure" to Newt in time to save his life, Thomas doesn't have much personal incentive to help resolve the pandemic, since everyone else he cares about is immune.
Sometime after being left behind in the WCKD lab by the Gladers, Gally is found still lying on the floor with the spear still in his chest by a crew, who, after discovering that he is immune to the Flare, pull the spear out of his chest and take him to the Last City to meet their leader, a Crank named Lawrence, who ...
Straying away from the novel that doesn't offer a cure in the end, Teresa comes up with an antidote in the movie. Observing a sample of Thomas' blood under the microscope, Teresa is able to confirm that it can destroy the Flare Virus.
Teresa finds the cure for The Flare. The Cure was the ultimate outcome of WICKED's goals. As the name suggests, it was what is hoped to be the treatment for the Flare virus.
Newt is approached by Thomas on a rooftop and shows him his infection, as shown by the black veins on his right arm. Newt explains that the reason WCKD put him in the Maze was because they wanted to tell the difference between immunes like Thomas and people like himself.
Gally got through the same way the other Gladers got through. Gally used the small mechanical device that was found in the dead Griever body. We know this because when Gally appears at the end he is holding it.
The Grievers are cyborg-like creatures resembling both slugs and spiders. They were artificially created by WCKD for their labyrinths. In the movies, their bodies are long, green, and slimy and have four mechanical legs as well as a robotic tail with a gripper at the end that can throw anything like Gladers.
He first gets angry with Thomas and then finally tells him that he is infected. In the book, Newt gives Thomas a note and tells him to read it “when the time is right.” In the film, it isn't until Newt dies when he gives Thomas a pendant that he later realises has a note hidden inside of it.
Disease Immunity: Teresa Agnes was shown to be immune to the deadly Flare virus and its effects. In Death Cure, when Ava Paige announced that the virus was airborne in the city dozens of the people wore mouth masks to be unable to breathe it, except for Teresa due to her immune gene keeping her unaffected.
After returning to Denver, Thomas sees that Newt has succumbed to the Flare. Thomas answers Newt's pleas by shooting him in the head as an act of mercy. The group then discovers that Teresa and the other Immunes have been captured.
Gally's hatred of Thomas is ultimately driven by an unwavering commitment to rules and safety, as well as a deep desire to uncover the truth of the Gladers' circumstances.
The only named people that I can find that reached the haven or whatever, the paradise at the end of the death cure, is Brenda, Jorge, Gally, Minho, Frypan, and presumingly Sonya unless she died fighting the WICKED people at the end.
Characters. Thomas (books 1–3, 5, minor appearance in book 4) is one of the creators of the Maze along with Teresa Agnes, and later a Group A Glader in books 1–3. He is the main protagonist of the series, named after Thomas Edison. Thomas's name was Stephen before WICKED took him from his mother.

How does the Maze Runner series end? Both the book series and movie series end the same way: with Thomas, Minho, Brenda, Jorge, and a bunch of other Immunes escaping WICKED to live out their lives in a Safe Haven.
During The Death Cure's ending, Thomas and others re-enter the maze to find other Immunes as part of WCKD's (known as WICKED in the books) plan to restart the trials.
