The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-G), formerly the USS Titan (NCC-80102-A), was a Federation Constitution III-class starship operated by Starfleet in the 24th and 25th centuries.
We have actually seen six— the original Constitution class NCC-1701 and the NCC-1701-A; the Excelsior class NCC-1701-B; the Ambassador class 1701-C; the Galaxy class 1701-D, and the Sovereign class NCC-1701-E. But on Star Trek Enterprise someone from the future mentioned there was an Enterprise-J.

The Enterprise-H was originally the USS Endurance (NX-90000). After the loss of the USS Enterprise-G, the Endurance was renamed Enterprise. The Enterprise-H was launched in 2420 as a replacement for the Constitution III-class USS Enterprise-G, which had been taken by Separatist forces some months earlier.
In 2402, the Titan was rechristened the Enterprise-G in honor of Jean-Luc Picard and the command crew of the USS Enterprise-D with Seven of Nine as the captain, Raffaela Musiker as the first officer, and Jack Crusher, now a Starfleet ensign, as special counselor to the captain.

The obvious in-universe reason for this is because it was previously the Titan, a Neo-Constitution-class starship, designed, like Kirk's Enterprise, to be a deep-space research vessel first. And so, by making the new Enterprise-G smaller than the D or the F, the hypothetical future of Trek is going back to its roots.
Ultimately though, Star Trek: Picard season 3 brought the story of the USS Enterprise-D to a satisfying close, and it should only be brought out of storage again if the universe is truly in trouble.
Picard season 3 was set two decades later and turned the fate of the Enterprise-E into a gag, with Goerdi noting the ship wasn't available and Worf defensively saying it wasn't his fault, leaving it a mystery.
Canonized during Star Trek Picard's Season 3, the Enterprise NCC-1701-F began its journey into the final frontier over a decade ago, as Cryptic Studios' own manifestation of the Enterprise Legacy.

Background information. The Enterprise-E was, in fact, the only replacement for a previously-destroyed "hero" ship that was not of the same class as its predecessor, as opposed to USS Enterprise-A (and its alternate reality counterpart) , the USS Defiant and the Delta Flyer.
