Dory, the small blue fish with a bad memory from the "Finding Nemo" franchise, is a blue tang, or a Paracanthurus hepatus in scientific terms. Native to the Indo-Pacific and found in coral reefs, these fish weigh around one pound and are generally 10 to 12 inches long, according to National Geographic.
Dory is a regal (or royal) blue tang, or in binomial language, Paracanthurus hepatus. The other species Acanthurus coeruleus, is known as the Atlantic blue tang.
One of the most famous examples of coral fish is the clownfish, which starred in the animated Pixar film Finding Nemo in 2003. This small fish, which lives in symbiosis with the sea anemone, is easily recognisable thanks to its bright orange body and wide white stripes.
Thanks to Disney's Finding Nemo franchise the Dory name tag will stick with Regal tangs forevermore. Also known as Hippo tangs or Pacific Blue tangs, Paracanthurus hepatus are tropical saltwater fish that belong to the Surgeonfish family and come from coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific.

Is Dory fish same as tilapia?
There is a misconception that John Dory and tilapia are the same fish, but this is completely inaccurate. Apart from both being white fish, the two have little else in common.
Dory's species of blue tang, Paracanthurus hepatus, has many different names: blue tang, doctorfish, common surgeon, regal tang, palette surgeonfish, royal blue tang, hippo tang, flagtail surgeonfish, Pacific regal blue tang, and blue surgeonfish.

Personally I do find a big difference between cod and dory. The texture is more firm, whole dory is mushy, and the taste is more oily (fish oily, good thing) than dory which was tasteless. Salt and vinegar was provided if you want more flavour.
