High elven eyes are most commonly green, with sun elves commonly possessing golden eyes and moon elves commonly exhibiting blue hues. Violet eyes are also not unheard of, though rarer.
The sex of a Dark Elf can be determined by their eye color. Male Dark Elves have red eyes and female Dark Elves have blue eyes while Juvenile Dark Elves, between their birth and up to the age of five, have purple eyes.
It is my understanding that blood elves are all typically born with light grey (see WC3), blue (Sylvanas, Vareesa), or green (Alleria Windrunner) eyes. With brown being an uncommon color. Their physical eyes (i.e. irises) do not change color, but rather their eyes simply glow with the magic they have absorbed.

Moon Elves have pale white skin. Their hair is colored in shades of purple, including black, violet, lavender, lilac, and white. Their eyes are typically a royal purple, but a rare few have lavender eyes. Lavender eyes are considered a sign of destiny in Moon Elven society.

Elven eyes for Tolkien either had specific colors for a character (Maeglin's dark eyes or Olwe's blue eyes), or, if their eyes were described at all, were typically noted as grey eyes.
It depends on whose Elves you are referring to. Tolkien's Elves have grey, blue-grey, or blue eyes. They seem to vary in shade somewhat, but there is no mention of brown, hazel, or green eyes.
Basically high elves had blue eyes, purple eyes and other variants. Blood elves got green eyes due the fel but that kinda moved away from their eyes as the fel exposure isn't as strong. They got golden eyes due the sunwell.
The Gold Elves or High Elves are currently the rarest race of elves on Mundanus, their population becoming nearly extinct in the War of Light and Dark of 705 IC which took place between the gold elves and the dark elves. The gold elves are considered by many as the masters of magic.
Such elves are almost unfailingly marked with the white or silver hair of the drow parent, and more often than not have dusky gray skin that takes on a purplish or bluish tinge in the right light, while their eye color usually favors that of the human parent.
In the novels, many elves are described with having 'impossible' and 'alien' and 'strange' eyes. So yes, it's possible. Purple seems to be fairly common as far as unusual eye colours go; there is a Dalish elf in the Stolen Throne, Felassan in The Masked Empire–though more specifically 'violet' in his case–and Solas.
The yellow must come from a gene or two genes. If that gene is not present then the yellow wont be there. As with most species, there is bound to be an individual without the yellow eyes. For instance, there could be an albino high elf.
Tolkien himself set forth rules about the hair colors belonging to the various types of elves. In his writings, the Vanyar elves have golden hair, but they don't reside in Middle-earth. Noldor elves have dark-colored hair. And the Teleri elves have silver or dark.
