Gramma Tala is the tritagonist in the 2016 film Moana. She is the mother of Tui, the mother-in-law of Sina and the grandmother of Moana. When Gramma Tala dies, she comes back as a manta ray, just like the one in her tattoo. Gramma Tala's clothes also have manta ray patterns on them.
