She falls out with her finance during the voyage, and meets Jack Dawson. Once the ship has sunk, she chooses to give her name to the authorities as Rose Dawson: thus there is no Rose DeWitt Bukater recorded on the surviving passenger records.
When an officer asked her name, Rose changed it to “Rose Dawson” to honor Jack's memory and further avoid being found by Cal and Ruth. Rose's name changed again years later after she got married, but she never got over Jack and their short-lived but intense romance on board the Titanic.

Cal gifted the diamond to Rose onboard the Titanic, as a “reminder of his feelings for her”, and reminded Rose that there was nothing he would deny her, asking her to open her heart to him. Rose wore the diamond when Jack drew her only wearing the necklace, and it was used to frame Jack for stealing it.
And when the Titanic hits an iceberg and sinks to the bottom of the ocean, Jack performs one final act of love: He helps Rose onto a floating wooden board—and remains in the freezing water beside her. Rose makes it. Jack doesn't. Over the past 25 years, the gesture has racked up a whole lot of skepticism.
So we know that Rose married after the disaster, and that she lived and loved him. There's no indication that the pair split and Rose speaks fondly of him their granddaughter.
The filmmaker in the interview with GQ revealed that he was initially thinking of someone like Gwyneth Paltrow for Rose. He said that when Kate was proposed as an option, he was afraid that she was too much of a typecast. And if he picks Kate for the role it might look like the "laziest casting in the world."
This means that if Jack was dead when Rose pushed him under water, then he would have immediately floated back to the surface. But if he was unconscious, he would have breathed water into lungs and eventually sink, which is the case. This shows that Jack was in Stage 3, unconscious, and very much alive.
And yeah, it's going to break your heart a little. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Cameron was asked directly, "Why doesn't Rose make room for Jack on the door?" To which he replied, "And the answer is very simple because it says on page 147 [of the script] that Jack dies.

What actually caused Jack's death at the end of Titanic?
Left in the freezing water by her side, he quickly succumbs to hypothermia after saying his tearful goodbyes. Fans, the stars themselves, and even the Mythbusters team have all posited ways in which Jack could have survived in the years since the film's release in 1997.
Co-hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman conducted their own experiment and concluded that both Jack and Rose could have shared the raft and survived, provided they propped their upper bodies upright and figured out how to attach Rose's life jacket underneath it to increase the buoyancy.
Another bluff was when Jack found Rose about to jump off the ship: Jack famously told Rose that if she jumped, he would jump after her, but he never had that intention as that wouldn't have accomplished anything except killing both.
The most accepted interpretation, however, is that about Rose dying at the end of Titanic and arriving at the afterlife with Jack and the rest of the passengers, and if so, the white dress hints at her going to heaven with everyone else.
While James Cameron will never make a sequel to Titanic, and Shane Van Dyke's Titanic II has nothing to do with the historic ocean liner, there are still plenty of movies about the H.M.S. Titanic for viewers who want more.
