After Venom restrains Spider-Man with his webbing, almost strangling him, The Sandman nearly beats Spider-Man to death, until the intervention of Harry Osborn, under the guise of "The New Goblin", who comes to his friend's aid with his father's Goblin equipment.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 reveals that Peter fought against Sandman several times early into his crime-fighting career as Spider-Man. Using his unique abilities, Flint Marko became a deadly bank robber and gave Spider-Man some of the most harrowing fights he ever endured as Spider-Man. After Sandman attacked the F.E.A.S.T.
When Spider-Man tried to stop him, Sandman saw him only as an obstacle to the healing of his daughter and did not hesitate to try to kill him when he got in his way.

Water: The Sandman's weakness that makes him most vulnerable is water. Water can soften his sand granules therefore, Sandman cannot control them and has to wait for them to dry.
Sandman is seen as a tragic villain because he is portrayed as a decent man who only breaks the law in order to afford the care his cancer-stricken daughter desperately needs. However, his powers and methods in order to do so makes him one of Spider-Man's most dangerous foes.
Heat vision and super-breath. This is how Sandman would be defeated by the Man of Steel. Supes would use his breath powers to separate Flint's sand particles, similar to what Flash would do when he smartened up. The other way Kal could defeat Marko is with his heat vision.
Thor or Sandman? Thor should take this without to much difficulty. Sandman's best bet is to try and enter his body and explode him like he did to Spider-Man in a Marvel Zombieverse Thor may be too durable for this though. Thor could turn sandman to glass with lightning.
