What sets Elsa apart from the mass array of Disney princesses is her inner battle with mental illness, anxiety and depression. In Frozen II, Elsa is the only person who can hear a voice but everyone couldn't.
But is it healthy? In Part I of the Frozen series, I suggested that Elsa experiences something like borderline personality disorder (BPD). In this interpretation, Elsa's frozen rages are an outward display of the emotional dysregulation she feels inside.
Anna's parents rush her to the sacred realm, where discussions with the trolls reveal that Elsa was born with her powers/ depigmentation and deafness, rather than them being due to illness or accident. Grand Pabbie troll heals Anna but removes her memories of Elsa's magic.
One of Elsa's biggest problems in Frozen was her inability to control her powers. "Let It Go" showed her slowly learning to let loose and embrace her abilities, and by the end of the film, she was able to take back her unending winter.
And while Elsa has PTSD, Anna suffers from a similar, yet very different, ordeal. Hit in the head by ice, and then mind-wiped, Anna has a lack of coordination, lack of balance, an extremely overly-impulsive attitude, poor judgement, compulsive behavior, and lack of memory.
Canonically, Elsa of Arendelle, who sits upon the tiny northern kingdom's throne at the end of Frozen, is not queer. Canonically, she is not romantically interested in anybody. And lest you wonder if that description means Elsa is asexual or aromantic, neither of those qualities is canon either.
The fact that granting Anna powers would invalidate or at least muddle the spirit-human bridge concept is only part of the issue. Aside from the logistical problem it poses, a sudden manifestation of magic in Anna would also take away from the beauty of her character.
As for whether Elsa and Anna are white … the Northuldra are modeled on the Sami, an indigenous people scattered across northern Scandinavia and northwestern Russia who have faced a great deal of discrimination, but there's a lot of disagreement about the genetic and linguistic origins of Sami to this day.
She also makes remarks such as "It's just me" and "No, I'm completely ordinary", which also indicates her low opinion of herself. Anna also tends to act before she thinks, and can be rather impulsive and quick-tempered at times, which causes quite a bit of trouble.
Although Elsa's disability is encoded as a magical ice power, the language the film uses to talk about her condition maps on to the experiences of people with physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities in recognizable ways.
In a few attention-grabbing works shown here, two of Disney's most prominent characters, Cinderella and Snow White, use a wheelchair, while Pocahontas and Jasmine deal with their own circumstance.
Elsa, however, is risk-averse, anxious, and self-doubting. This is her biggest test. She must accept her crown and scepter with ungloved hands. Should she slip up or let her emotions overwhelm her, she may let the magic out, revealing who she really is.
Rapunzel: Rapunzel has signs of Stockholm Syndrome, a syndrome in which a hostage starts to feel sympathy for their captor. Mother Gothel has kept Rapunzel imprisoned to a tower for the majority of her life, and the two have become close.
In Frozen 2, Elsa spends most of her journey traveling with her “Let It Go” braid, but as she gets closer to Ahtohallan and her physical and emotional challenges become more steep, she first lets her hair down into a ponytail, then ultimately undoes it altogether for “Show Yourself,” emphasizing her ultimate ...
(Note: Much of Frozen 2 appears to be a reaction to the reaction the first film received for not including many people of color and for “whitewashing.” The problem with how Frozen 2 handled this is that they really couldn't up and change the race of the lead characters, so instead they just had them retroactively ...
The implication, and it's only ever just that, is that Elsa and Anna's mother is herself somehow attuned to the magical forces such that Elsa was given the gift of superpowers. (Why Anna never received such powers is equally vaguely defined: just as Elsa and Anna's father had no powers, so too would she be power-free.
While Frozen 2 explores the reasons why Elsa herself has magical powers, it doesn't directly address why Anna and her parents have no magical powers to speak of. Since Elsa's powers are a gift from the spirits, Anna's lack of powers may be attributed to the simple fact that she was born second.
Elsa's opening narration reflects on grief and death. She has left her post with the cattle, staying instead by the wagons. One morning, she leaves the wagons to sit by herself after getting her period (she won't be carrying Ennis' child).
Honeymaren, a member of the Northuldra tribe who was trapped in the Enchanted Forest by the curse, could return for Frozen 3 as Elsa's girlfriend based on the two characters' shared chemistry.
