As an adolescent, Moana struggles to find her independence. She wants the independence and makes the decision to go beyond the reef to find Maui, the demigod and get back the heart of Te Fiti.
Moana struggles throughout the film with this central question “Who Am I?” This is a question many of us ask ourselves and when we are distant from the answer, it can fill us with anxiety.
She faces many obstacles, the monster, the pirates, and dangerous situation. The researcher assumes that the journey that is experienced by Moana contains issue of hero's journey.
The central Dramatic Argument of Moana revolves around the two Elements of Free and Control, with Moana taking on Free and Maui assuming the polar opposite motivation of Control.

The death of Moana's grandmother is very sad especially for viewers who have recently lost a grandparent or don't understand death. There is another very emotional scene where her spirit visits Moana in the form of a manta ray.
Moana must dodge the darts thrown by the Kakamora without stepping out of the boat. If Moana's hit, she must swap places with the Kakamora who hit her.
The theory is that there is a barrier between the spiritual, mystical world and the real world, with Maui's island located in the former. In order for Moana to get there (and return the relic stolen from the goddess Te Fiti) she has to die, too.

Moana isn't the first princess not to have a love interest. Princess Merida from Brave also didn't have one. The story was all about her not wanting go through with an arranged marriage and her relationship with her mother, and that movie was AMAZING.
To solve the problem, Moana takes a boat to cross the sea to find Maui, the thief, and restore the heart together, even though she does not know how to sail.
Moana bids farewell to Maui and Te Fiti, returning home and reuniting with her parents. She takes up her role as chief and wayfinder, leading her people as they resume voyaging, accompanied by Maui.
Moana's age, 16, is less of an issue in her story as it doesn't include a romantic plot, but it still relies on a young girl to overcome dangerous challenges and save the world.
In the Disney film Moana, the relationship between Moana and Maui is not romantic because Moana is a sixteen year old girl and Maui is thousands of years old. This is a step up from prior Disney movies.
Although Moana is from the fictional island Motunui some 3,000 years ago, the story and culture of Moana is based on the very real heritage and history of Polynesian islands such as Hawaii, Samoa, Tonga, and Tahiti. The overarching message of Moana is, truly, that the worst thing to happen to you doesn't have to define you.
