I feel very accomplished now. This book was basically everything I wanted: A book about rom-coms (there were quotes from rom-coms at the beginning of each chapter !!), an ENEMIES TO LOVERS, FAKE DATING, sooo much denial, and drama, drama, DRAMA.

Lynn Painter's adorable young adult rom-com Better Than the Movies is about Liz Buxbaum, a fabulously eccentric high schooler coping with the grief of having lost her mom--while navigating the sparkly idea--and messy reality--of romance, with the inspiration of her mom's favorite romantic comedies.
I will say some of the things that the characters did were too cheesy for me. But not to bad. A little bit of spice, depending on your spice preference. I prefer minimal spice and it was a little to much for me.

Is Better Than the Movies ok for 13 year olds?
I think some of the role modeling in this story was slightly inappropriate for the younger generation. Overall, I do and do not recommend this novel to other teens. I believe that there are far better novels to read than this, but if you want a light read Better Than the Movies is the right novel to choose from.
There is just the right amount of spicy scenes in this book that will satisfy any rom-com fan. If you are looking for a rom-com that is light, funny, and oh so steamy, then you need to check out Mr. Wrong Number by Lynn Painter.

But of course—unfortunately for Liz—Wes and Michael are great friends, making Wes her only way to Michael's heart. Besides, what's more fun than a story that starts with a fake relationship? With its enemies-to-lovers plot and fake dating trope, this book quickly became one of my top five favorite books.
Happily Never After is a wonderful low-stakes romantic comedy filled with laughter, love, and spice. The premise is incredibly original, the pacing is phenomenal, and the characters have depth and are extremely lovable. I was entertained every step of the way and never wanted this story to end.
As far as adult content goes, there's drinking, sexual content (lots) and language. It's definitely geared towards adults but New Adult would, I think be fine. There are several making out/ sex scenes. I would say, a spice level of three.

This book has some great romance, no sex, just some passionate kisses. There are very few swear words. The violence is a lot, but I wouldn't describe it as "graphic" or "frightening", especially for older teens.
