Fudge stayed on as an adviser and messenger to the Muggle Prime Minister for Scrimgeour, as Scrimgeour was too busy to contact the Muggle Minister himself.
LONDON (AP) — Robert Hardy, a veteran British stage and screen actor who played Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge in the “Harry Potter” movies, has died. He was 91. His family said Hardy died Thursday after “a tremendous life: a giant career in theater, television and film spanning more than 70 years.”
Sorted in Slytherin House at Hogwarts, Fudge later married Amaryllis Fudge and pursued a career at the British Ministry of Magic. After working as a Junior Minister in the D.M.A.C., Fudge was (to his own surprise) elected Minister for Magic in 1990.
Cornelius Fudge for instance was sacked because of his poor performance as Minister for Magic, and that led to his being succeeded by Rufus Scrimgeour.
After the incidents of book 5 the then Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge was highly criticised in the magical community by the public as well as the Daily Prophet. He was stripped of his position of Minister and possibly shunned from the ministry itself.

Lucius Malfoy's failure at the Department of Mysteries combined with accidentally destroying part of Voldemort's soul with the diary of Tom Riddle resulted in his loss of any standing with the Dark Lord. Some believed that he was safer in Azkaban than being free. Lucius was sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban.

If you have only seen the films, you might be surprised to hear that it wasn't Cho Chang who betrayed Dumbledore's Army to Professor Umbridge – it was Marietta Edgecombe. A friend of Cho's and a fellow Ravenclaw, Marietta (reluctantly) joined the DA.
Although Umbridge was not a Death Eater, and had no direct contact with Lord Voldemort, she showed that she was fairly in line with their goals. This was due to Umbridge's callous nature and her prejudiced beliefs, both of which were similar to Death Eater behavior.
When the centaurs made threatening moves, Umbridge cast "Incarcerous" on the centaur Magorian, strangling him with ropes. The centaur Bane then picked her up and carried her away deeper into the forest screaming (what happened to her beyond that, during her time with the Centaur herd until she was rescued, is unknown).
