Walter engages David in a vicious fight and outclasses him, pinning him down and bashing David's head in with a rock. Before he delivers the killing blow, David grabs for a knife and the rest is left untold. Either way, Walter returns to the Covenant with the rest of the crew.
Ultimately, David wins and assumes Walter's identity. It is unclear if Walter is permanently damaged or will be able to recover. Regardless, he is left on the planet as David leaves on the Covenant.

Is there a part 2 to Covenant?
The canceled sequel to Alien: Covenant would have concluded a controversial retcon that the newer movies created. The Alien movies' timeline has always been complicated in terms of the chronological narrative and lore, with the introduction of its prequels and sequels creating inconsistencies throughout the films.
