Katherine Kiernan Maria Mulgrew (born April 29, 1955) is an American actress and author. She is best known for her roles as Captain Kathryn Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager and Red in Orange Is the New Black.
The closest Janeway and Chakotay ever got to admitting feelings for each other was in Voyager season 2, episode 25, "Resolutions", but despite romantic tension, their relationship was never fully realized.

While any feelings Janeway and Chakotay had for each other remained unrequited, the two characters certainly pursued other romances over Voyager's seven seasons. Chakotay, in particular, was given and variety of romantic subplots, eventually ending up in an ill-fated romance with Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan).
Neelix, a Delta Quadrant native turned USS Voyager crewmember, left the ship early after finding a colony of his own species living in an asteroid. It was a surprising choice for Voyager's final season and a rarity for Star Trek. It was an actual ending.

Do Janeway and Chakotay get together in the books?
In the non-canon Trek novels, Chakotay promptly ends his relationship with Seven shortly after returning to the Alpha Quadrant and he takes command of Voyager after Janeway is promoted to Admiral. Chakotay and Janeway do consummate their relationship, but just before Janeway's untimely death.
Summary. Jennifer Lien's departure from Star Trek: Voyager was due to creative limitations and the ill-judged romance angle between Kes and Neelix. Kes's short lifespan as an Ocampa limited the storytelling possibilities for her character, contributing to her departure from the show.
Although Kes is portrayed as fragile and innocent, she is also shown as having a hidden strength and maturity. Voyager's producers reluctantly fired Lien after her personal issues affected her reliability on set.
Neelix departs the show in the seventh season's 23rd episode "Homestead".
