The film uses very long, uninterrupted shots throughout to draw the audience into the action, but contrasts these with claustrophobic shots within space suits and capsules. Human evolution and the resilience of life may also be seen as key themes of Gravity.
Visually, Gravity is unlike what we have seen on a cinema screen before and arguably it has one of the best uses of 3D in a movie. The setting is spectacular and the premise is inventive.
In interviews, Cuaron has also nodded to the idea that the film is about rebirth: We have a character that is drifting metaphorical and literally, drifting towards the void. A victim of their own inertia. Getting farther and farther away from Earth where life and human connections are.
Although space exposure is largely portrayed quite accurately, the bodies of Evans and Thomas are not bloated and it would take hours for frost to develop on corpses, not moments like in the film. It would take years to amass a field of catastrophic satellite debris, not minutes as portrayed in the film.

While Newton greatly added to our understanding of how gravity works, we still don't know why gravity works. Newton's law stated that every object in the universe with mass attracts every other object in the universe that has mass.
Stone must come to terms with her will to survive (the central conflict) in the face of the returning debris field and her depleted oxygen supply (intentional opposition) as she and Matt travel to the ISS to use its Soyuz to return to Earth (false goal).

Matt fired his way back toward Shariff and the Explorer while Houston explained: A Russian satellite self-destructed and the resulting cloud of debris was hurling toward the shuttle which lied directly in it's orbit. The debris hurled forward through space toward the shuttle as Matt turned around to recover Ryan.
