The Beast, also known as Prince Adam, is a fictional character who appears in Walt Disney Animation Studios' 30th animated feature film Beauty and the Beast (1991), as well as in the film's two direct-to-video followups Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas and Belle's Magical World.
The Beast is a mix of several animals including a lion, a buffalo and a bear. Disney animator Glen Keane revealed that Beast was made up of the head of a buffalo, the mane of a lion, the tusks and nose of a wild boar, the brow of a gorilla and the bulky body of a bear.
The Beast is not of any one species of animal, but a chimera, a mixture of several animals. However, Gaston fatally stabs the Beast before losing his footing and falling to his death. The Beast dies in Belle's arms before the last petal falls. Does the beast have a name?
Of course, this might have been a recent addition to the debate, as he had previously said that they didn't give a name to the character. No matter what all the licensed products say, truth is that the Beast doesn't have an official name, so it's up to every Disney fan to decide if his name is Adam or something else.
A prince by birth, he was cursed by a mysterious Enchantress as punishment for his selfish and cruel nature; only by loving another and earning their love in return can the Beast free himself and those affected by the spell before time runs out.

In his final act of selfless sacrifice, after sharing a ballroom dance with Belle, the Beast finally releases Belle in order for her to tend to her ailing father, despite that it would greatly upset him and would prevent the curse from being broken, because he indeed loves her.
He goes to Forte to ask for advice, and Forte lies that Belle has abandoned him. Beast manages to find Belle and saves her in time from drowning after she fell through thin ice. Still believing that Belle disobeyed him by breaking her promise not to leave, Beast locks her into the dungeons to rot.
Anthropologists believe the story is actually over 4,000 years old. Indeed, elements of Beauty and the Beast appear in tales from many different cultures.
If you've watched Disney's animated "Beauty and the Beast" numerous times, one of the biggest plot holes of the classic tale is exactly how much time Belle spends at the Beast's castle.
