Some time has passed between the Avatar timeline and that of the sequel as Avatar: The Way of Water starts more than a decade after the first film's climactic battle between Na'vi warriors and the RDA soldiers led by Miles Quaritch. More specifically, Avatar 2 appears to take place 14 years later.
16. Set nearly 15 years after the original film, the movie focuses on erstwhile human soldier Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) who fell in love with the planet of Pandora and the Na'vi warrior Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) in the first film. Jake left his human body to become a Na'vi himself.
However, James Cameron's Avatar sequel was supposed to hit theaters in 2014 and then again in 2020. The reason it took so long was that James Cameron wanted to get everything exactly right. The Way of Water is set 15 years after the events of the first film. Due to a one year time skip during the story, most of the film's events are set in 2170. Similar to the first film, the story is set across months with only the more important scenes being shown.
Plainly, the major reason why Avatar 2 took so long is the long pre-production state, a result of Cameron's commitment to the special effects that set Avatar apart from other films of its time to begin with.
This log was made on August 24, 2154, which Jake notes as his "birthday." The events of The Way of Water happen around 2169, putting it firmly about 14-15 years after the first movie.
In September 2020, Cameron announced that 95% of Avatar 3 had been completed. Filming wrapped in December 2020. In February 2024, Cameron gave the following update on Avatar 3: It's pretty much in the can.
The four films have an overarching meta-narrative that connects them to create a large interconnected saga. Cameron described the sequels as "a natural extension of all the themes, and the characters, and the spiritual undercurrents" of the first film.
Neteyam te Suli Tsyeyk'itan, or Neteyam, is a major character in the Avatar franchise, serving as one of the main characters in Avatar: The Way of Water. He is the 15-year-old eldest son of Jake Sully and Neytiri, who is also the older brother of Lo'ak, Tuktirey, and Kiri.
"Each Avatar film is an exciting but epic undertaking that takes time to bring to the quality level we as filmmakers strive for and audiences have come to expect," producer Jon Landau said on Twitter about the delay.
This isn't an easy question to answer by any means, however. Since Jake Sully's human body was 28 years old at that point, his Avatar body seemed to be relatively young at that point. Given that he was somewhere in his early to mid-20s, he would have to be somewhere between 36 and 40 years old.

Lifespan. Although lifespan data is incomplete, it is estimated Na'vi live 30% longer than the average human. Once born, Na'vi children mature more rapidly than humans.

But, the question still remains: Will Neteyam return to Avatar 3? The short and easy answer is, No. But, it's important to note that the Avatar franchise has brought dead characters back in the past. The Way of Water brought Quaritch back as a recombinant.

Confirming many theories about the character, Spider is the biological son of Avatar's Colonel Miles Quaritch while Spider's mother in Avatar 2 is not explicitly revealed. Since he was already an infant in Avatar's ending, Spider's age is approximately 15 or 16 years old in Avatar: The Way of Water.
