Victoria asks God for forgiveness before she jumps and hangs herself. Sometime later, her decaying body is discovered by a man simply known as Frenchie (Jonas Bloquet). The officials at the Vatican learn of Victoria's suicide, which is considered the ultimate sin.
There are descriptions of suicide, lots of blood, slashed skin, stabbing, dead bodies, burning bodies, a man is buried alive (but escapes), shooting, demonic possession and all that stuff. There is some strong language and drinking (wine, beer, etc.) but it's not inappropriate.
What the investigators find is that the Abbey has a connection to a mysterious and evil demon, Valak, that has spread corruption throughout the area. Valak, debuted in the second Conjuring film, is often shown to take the form of a demonic nun (ergo the title) and it is a force to be reckoned with.
The Conjuring 2, The Nun, and The Nun II has Valak as the main antagonist, taking on the form of a demonic nun and The Crooked Man from the rhyme "There Was a Crooked Man". However, it has not been confirmed if Valak is the Crooked Man. The Nun revealed that it took the form of a nun to hide amongst the Sisters.
The surviving nun, Sister Victoria, flees from the attacker, a demon appearing as a nun, and hangs herself. Her body is discovered by Frenchie, a villager who transports supplies to the nuns. The Vatican sends Father Burke with Sister Irene, a nun in her novitiate, to Romania to investigate.

How old was The Nun when she died?
French nun Sister André, the world's oldest known person, died Tuesday at less than a month away from her 119th birthday. In her long life, she survived both world wars, the 1918 influenza pandemic and even a case of Covid-19.
The exhumed remains of Sister Wilhelmina Lancaster, the African American foundress of the Benedictine Sisters of Mary, Queen of the Apostles, had almost no signs of decay even four years after her death. Her body was being exhumed so it could be shifted to its final resting place.
All that stands in the demon nun's way is Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga). Valak is after the eyes of Saint Lucy, patron saint of the blind, in order to restore the power that was taken from the demon when it was an angel rejected by God.
The ban was prompted by a viral tweet that cautioned anyone who hates jump scares or had anxiety to look away and turn down the volume when they saw an ad … with the volume being turned down and nothing else. The ad in question is clearly designed to freak out the viewer as much as possible.
Hundreds of years later, the monastery was bombed heavily during the events of World War II, releasing the same evil spirit from its imprisonment. The demon had since taken the form of a nun as a means of blending with the other nuns as well as to mock their faith.
Violence & Scariness. Jump scares, demonic attacks, death by suicide (a bloodied body briefly hangs, attacked by birds), and other deaths. Plenty of blood seen in the form of severed body parts, pools of blood, and a brief image of blood flowing down stairs. A character is buried alive but survives.
On Sept. 8, “The Nun II” was released to theaters across the country. The film is a sequel to “The Nun,” which came out almost exactly five years ago. The sequel is far more well-received and delivers a better scare factor, better writing and a more interesting plot.
“The Nun II” deserves a rating of unsatisfactory, as I felt the movie was too forceful and had dull transitions and was bad enough to leave. It was a bit of a letdown because of how predictable it was. I feel like if the entire movie had been similar to the end, I would have been on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Critics Consensus: Scarier than its predecessor, The Nun II makes for an entertaining addition to the Conjuring franchise despite not being the most original horror sequel.
Valak seeks Saint Lucy's eyes for divine power but is ultimately defeated by the power of belief and the blood of Christ. The film hints at a possible connection between Sister Irene and Lorraine Warren, setting up future movies in the Conjuring universe.
The Nun II is set to be released on September 8, 2023, with Valak returning as the demonic entity. The Nun II will feature new cast members, including Storm Reid, and will explore a platonic friendship between Frenchie and Sister Irene while they fight against the evil within him.
The Nun movies are actually prequels to The Conjuring series. While The Nun and its sequel take part in the 1950s, The Conjuring is set in the 1970s. Valak torments a young nun throughout the series, and it's only when Lorraine encounters Valak two decades after that we see the demon defeated.
Irene uses the relic against Maurice, but he grabs it, causing Valak to appear. Similar to Father Noiret, Valak lifts Irene in the air and sets her ablaze. Irene does not burn as Valak realizes she is a descendant of St. Lucy, able to harness the same power associated with the relic.
Will there be The Nun 3? The Nun 3 is not yet confirmed, but there is demand and narrative potential for the franchise to continue with another installment. If The Nun 3 does happen, it is likely to be released no earlier than 2026, based on the release timeline of previous films.
That never seemed to make total sense given what has been established about Lorraine in the series. However, The Nun 2 has now confirmed that even though they're not the same person, the two characters are related.
