Using its class 4 hyperdrive, the Death Star tracked and followed the Millennium Falcon to the rebels' base on Yavin 4, where Grand Moff Tarkin planned to use its superlaser to completely destroy the Rebellion. The Death Star was crewed by anywhere from 1.1+ to 1.2+ million Imperials, depending on its given mission.
Facilitating the Death Star's realspace propulsion was a network of powerful ion engines that transformed reactor power into needed thrust. In order for the Death Star to be a deadly threat, it needed to be mobile.
Instead, the Death Star has artificial gravity that points towards the core for the decks nearest the surface. In the central section, all the decks use a separate gravity that points down towards its south pole.
What are the different types of hyperdrives in Star Wars?
Hyperdrives were rated by "class": the lower the class, the faster the engine. Most civilian ships used hyperdrives rated Class Three or higher, while government, diplomatic, and military ships were equipped with Class Two or Class One hyperdrives.

When the helium fuel runs out, the core will expand and cool. The upper layers will expand and eject material that will collect around the dying star to form a planetary nebula. Finally, the core will cool into a white dwarf and then eventually into a black dwarf. This entire process will take a few billion years.
But what made the Death Star particularly menacing was its ability to travel through hyperspace. Not only was it equipped with destructive armaments, it could pursue its prey with those armaments.
Essentially, the Empire was able to build the second Death Star so quickly because they'd already built one before. Furthermore, Darth Sidious expedited the construction of the second Death Star so that it was functional far sooner than the first.
It was two-three times larger than DS1 and took far more materials to build it. Sid also wanted it to look unfinished so he could lure the Rebels in: “it's a trap!” But he ensured the planet killer gun was operational by sending Vader in to oversee it.
Why didn t the Rebels hyperspace ram the Death Star?
The Rebels couldn't waste their precious ships while the Empire had other more effective means. One of the most common arguements is that hyperspace engines could be strapped to asteroids.
The science fiction vision of stars flashing by as streaks when spaceships travel faster than light isn't what the scene would actually look like, a team of physics students says. Instead, the view out the windows of a vehicle traveling through hyperspace would be more like a centralized bright glow, calculations show.
The Death Star's most famous weakness was its thermal exhaust port, but Star Wars has hinted the battle-station had another critical weakness that would have become clear over years. Emperor Palpatine intended the Death Star to be almost invincible, but he had not factored in Galen Erso's sabotage.
The Death Star is at most 100 miles (160 kilometers) in diameter, and would not be able to survive long in low Earth orbit. Although small objects can remain in low orbit around the Earth for hundreds of years with no propulsion, an object that large would fall out of orbit more quickly and crash into the surface.
In that it's opposite in function but similar in scale. Both were huge space stations made by the galaxy's controlling power to spread their influence. The Death Star did so through destruction, a trait associated with the dark side.
The Empire had other weapons besides the Death Star that could have been more effective in pushing their agenda on the galaxy. Starkiller Base was one suggestion, with a longer range and no built-in self-destruct, making it a formidable weapon.
Introduced in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Starkiller Base was born from the remains of the planet Illum, where Jedi would go to find their Kyber Crystals. With a huge battery to focus its power, the massive base could wipe out entire systems with better efficiency than the Death Star.
In the original Star Tours, a Death Star III is seen and destroyed during the ride sequence by the New Republic. Leland Chee originally created the third Death Star to explain why a Death Star is present on the Star Tours ride when both of the stations in the movies were destroyed.
It's Millennium Falcon We don't have a clue how to build a hyperdrive. We know of no form of physics that allows it. We may be able to build a warp drive that allows us to approach light speed.
Accordingly, "warp 1" is equivalent to the speed of light, "warp 2" is eight times the speed of light, "warp 3" is 27 times the speed of light, etc. Several episodes of The Original Series placed the Enterprise in peril by having it travel at high warp factors.
