While Burroughs never said exactly where Tarzan was set, Cameroon's sandy beaches, imposing jungle and ape sanctuaries seem like a good bet – so much so that the West African country was chosen as the setting for the 1984 film Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes.
Tarzan is the son of a British Lord and Lady who were marooned on the West coast of Africa by mutineers. When Tarzan was a year old, his mother died of natural causes, and his father was killed by Kerchak, leader of the ape tribe into which Tarzan was adopted.
The Waziri are a fictional African tribe created by Edgar Rice Burroughs in his Tarzan novels. Burroughs characterizes the Waziri as the greatest warriors in Africa, though small in numbers. They are feared by Arabic ivory and slave traders as well as cannibal tribes, and known from western to eastern Africa.
Films such as The Jungle Book (1967), The Lion King (1994), and Tarzan (1999) are examples of Disney spreading 'knowledge' about distant cultures to children. The Lion King and Tarzan are the only two Disney films stated to be depicted somewhere in Africa.
Greystoke Castle has its place in UK history during the time of the world wars where it was used as a"tank-driving" training ground and interestingly a Prisoner of war camp. It also has some folklore around Tarzan being based on the stories of the Howard family who once owned the Castle.

What ethnicity is Tarzan?
Tarzan is a white European male who grows up with apes. According to "Taking Tarzan Seriously" by Marianna Torgovnick, Tarzan is confused with the social hierarchy that he is a part of. Unlike everyone else in his society, Tarzan is the only one who is not clearly part of any social group.
The largest jungle in Africa is the Congo Basin, which is the second-largest rainforest in the world and is thought to be the setting for Tarzan. Africa also has many other, smaller rainforests. Altogether, Africa's rainforests cover as much land as the Amazon Jungle.

Sheena. With slight modifications, Sheena is basically a female version of Tarzan and was the first female comic book character with her own title, debuting in 1937 in Great Britain and 1938 in America.
Since Lord Mildin stranded in 1868 and the first Tarzan book (by Edgar Rice Burroughs) was published in 1912, some people theorized that the story of Tarzan was actually based on Lord Mildin. Another one of these real life Tarzans is a Vietnamese man named Ho van Lang.
Although Burroughs never named a specific location for Tarzan's home, it was somewhere in West Africa, in a country with varied geography that includes a coastline and verdant jungles, in a country like Cameroon.
Plot. In the late 1880s, a British couple and their infant son are shipwrecked in Equatorial Africa. The adults build a treehouse but are killed by Sabor, a villainous leopard. Kala and Kerchak, the leaders of a troop of gorillas, lose their infant son to Sabor as well.
Terk, referring to herself Terk is a major character in Disney's 1999 animated feature film, Tarzan. She is a rowdy, tomboyish, and fun-loving gorilla and the best friend of Tarzan.
