While this slasher sequel is bogged down by complicated lore and is far more brutal than it is actually scary, the strong characters and an effective mystery come together to make it a cut above. Fans of the franchise will likely want to rewatch the previous five movies before tackling.
In the hands of new filmmakers, the meta-horror idea still has enough juice to produce a lightly flawed but wickedly entertaining shocker for mature fans. Violence is extremely strong and over the top, with lots of blood: spurts, sprays, and gurgles.

Sidney does still show lots of endurance and perseverance and Gale Weathers is still trying to get a good story on the new Ghostface, just like the first one. Again, the violence is too extreme for viewers under mid-teens, but this sequel is not a waste of time for those who liked the first “Scream” flick.
