Cornucopia BloodbathClove earned the first kill in the Games during the bloodbath when she threw a knife at the boy from 9 and struck him in the back. Next, she targeted Katniss's head but was thwarted when Katniss shielded herself with her backpack.
Clove has her pinned, and it is only because Clove takes too long taunting Katniss (a trope common in commercial action movies) that she isn't able to kill Katniss. Thresh, the boy who came with Rue from District 11, pulls Clove off and kills her by smashing her head with a rock.
During the feast, Thresh saves Katniss from being killed by Clove. After Thresh avenges Rue's death by killing Clove, he asks Katniss about Rue. Thresh is touched that Katniss had taken care of Rue and tried to protect her from the other tributes, and feels that he owes her.
During the 74th Hunger Games, Clove stabbed the male tribute from District 9 while he was grappling over an orange backpack with Katniss during the bloodbath. She targeted Katniss next, aiming a knife at her head, but Katniss blocked it with her pack and escaped.
Who rescues Katniss from Clove Why does this person spare Katniss life?
Clove knocks Katniss over and, holding a knife, is about to kill her and also insults Rue. Thresh overhears this and grabs Clove, attacking her and saving Katniss. To thank Katniss for staying with Rue as she died, Thresh doesn't kill Katniss and urges her to run before Cato arrives.
Rue ultimately saves Katniss in this chapter. Katniss' friendship with Rue keeps Thresh from killing her. He feels as if he owes Katniss for her kindness toward Rue and, indirectly, his district, and Katniss of all people understands not wanting to owe anyone.
During the supposed execution of Snow, she instead shoots Coin, due to her being responsible for Prim's death. She then attempts to kill herself with the suicide pill attached to her uniform, but Peeta stops her.
Thresh, in the book, is known to be an intimidating and physically strong tribute who spares Katniss' life. Lionsgate made the announcement on the official Hunger Games page on Facebook and will continue to unveil castings on the site.
Katniss feels betrayed, most of all by Haymitch, who used her and Peeta. Eventually she wakes to find Gale there. He's badly injured and tells her the Capitol bombed District 12 after the Games. He got Prim and Katniss's mother out in time, but the District 12 is gone.
It is unknown why only Clove went in for the backpack, but by the time she is fatally wounded by Thresh, Cato is too far away to save her. As Katniss flees the feast, she sees Cato kneel beside Clove and beg her to stay with him.
She loved Cato, and he loved her, but they couldn't tell anyone. No one would sponsor a Career Tribute who loved anyone, especially someone in the arena with them. They had tried to keep it secret, but, since they see the Comittee of Victors every day in training, it's hard to keep anything secret from them.
Did Peeta stop Katniss from taking the Nightlock pill?
After Peeta stops Katniss from taking the Nightlock pill, Katniss begs him to let her go but he says “I can't.” Its a beautiful moment in the book showing him protect her instead of harming her like the Capitol intended.
Whereas at the feast when clove was dying, Cato ran and held her in his arms and begged her to stay with him. But this could have been merely because Cato was trying to survive himself with the tracker jackers and didn't have time to help glimmer. Or because clove was simply the last ally alive.
Peeta thanks Katniss for finding him and she says that he would have done the same. He talks about what Katniss should do if he doesn't make it back. She's worried that he might die, and to keep him from speaking of such things, she kisses him. It's her first kiss.
What does he mean by this? It means that during the arena, during his killing spree, he realizes that there's more to life than killing, and he's just a pawn in the whole scheme of things. He realizes that he's a cruel person the capitol created, and he wouldn't mind dying because he wasn't alive on the inside anyways.
According to the star behind Effie, Elizabeth Banks, she and Haymitch's Woody Harrelson improvised the scene. Considering she's been adamant about the characters having some romantic connection, it only makes sense that they'd share a goodbye kiss. It's very on-brand for Effie, as well.
However, Peeta desperately wanted children, and approximately fifteen years after the end of the Second Rebellion, Katniss eventually agreed and she got pregnant legitimately. Katniss described terrible fear at the feeling of her daughter moving inside her during her pregnancy.
Katniss is acquitted of murder by reason of insanity and sent home to District 12, while her mother leaves for District 4 and Gale for District 2. Other District 12 natives later return, including Peeta, who has recovered his memories and his love for Katniss.
A look into the Morphling's mindset offers an explanation for why she would give her life to save Peeta's in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. In the Third Quarter Quell arena in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, there is some confusion as to why one of District 6's Morphlings sacrifices herself for Peeta.
Part of Peeta's left leg was amputated following the 74th Hunger Games, forcing him to walk with the aid of a prosthetic leg for the rest of his life. In the 2012 film adaptation, his leg is never amputated.
Then, when she's outside the cave at the stream, a gift parachutes down to her. It's a vial. At first, Katniss thinks it's anti-infection medicine meant to cure Peeta, but she smells and tastes it and recognizes that it's sleep syrup. She understands why Haymitch sent it.
