Clove earned the first kill in the Games during the bloodbath when she threw a knife at the boy from 9 and struck him in the back. Next, she targeted Katniss's head but was thwarted when Katniss shielded herself with her backpack.
Just before Clove slices into Katniss' face, Thresh lifts her off of Katniss, throws her to the ground, and beats her to death with a rock. He asks Katniss what she meant about Rue, and Katniss explains how she and Rue were allies, how she'd sung to Rue before she died.
Clove has her pinned, and it is only because Clove takes too long taunting Katniss (a trope common in commercial action movies) that she isn't able to kill Katniss. Thresh, the boy who came with Rue from District 11, pulls Clove off and kills her by smashing her head with a rock.
During the feast, Thresh saves Katniss from being killed by Clove. After Thresh avenges Rue's death by killing Clove, he asks Katniss about Rue. Thresh is touched that Katniss had taken care of Rue and tried to protect her from the other tributes, and feels that he owes her.

Clove knocks Katniss over and, holding a knife, is about to kill her and also insults Rue. Thresh overhears this and grabs Clove, attacking her and saving Katniss. To thank Katniss for staying with Rue as she died, Thresh doesn't kill Katniss and urges her to run before Cato arrives.
It is unknown why only Clove went in for the backpack, but by the time she is fatally wounded by Thresh, Cato is too far away to save her. As Katniss flees the feast, she sees Cato kneel beside Clove and beg her to stay with him.
Whereas at the feast when clove was dying, Cato ran and held her in his arms and begged her to stay with him. But this could have been merely because Cato was trying to survive himself with the tracker jackers and didn't have time to help glimmer. Or because clove was simply the last ally alive.
Peeta thanks Katniss for finding him and she says that he would have done the same. He talks about what Katniss should do if he doesn't make it back. She's worried that he might die, and to keep him from speaking of such things, she kisses him. It's her first kiss.

In the film, Thresh's odds of winning change from 10–1 to 11–1. Afterward, they increase from 11–1 to 8–1. In The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, Katniss states that Cato killed Thresh. However, this is not in-line with the film continuity, as Thresh was killed by the wolf mutts in the first film.
She loved Cato, and he loved her, but they couldn't tell anyone. No one would sponsor a Career Tribute who loved anyone, especially someone in the arena with them. They had tried to keep it secret, but, since they see the Comittee of Victors every day in training, it's hard to keep anything secret from them.
Recognizing that only a select few people would know why she killed Coin not Snow, Katniss prepared to ingest a suicide "Nightlock" pill, but Peeta stripped the poison from her as she was carried away by rebel guards. Hours later, Katniss is visited in the Capitol jail by Abernathy - who reads a letter from Plutarch.
In the aftermath of killing Coin, Katniss tries to take her nightlock pill but Peeta stops her, a parallel and inversion of their attempted “suicide” in the first book.
She understands why Haymitch sent it. She mixes the medicine in with some mashed-up berries and mint leaves and has Peeta eat it. He comments on the sweetness of the berries and realizes what Katniss has done, but it's too late. He drifts off into sleep.
What: The sneering leader of the Cobra Kai Career gang, Cato's last words in the book are appropriately demonic: ''Shoot me, and he goes down with me. '' The film grants Cato a little bit more emotion.
Cato sees his victory in the Hunger Games as the correct and natural outcome – after all, he's been preparing his whole life, and tributes from Districts 1 and 2 are most likely to be winners. But Katniss's high score in training, uncommon for District 12 tributes, earns Cato's attention and ire.
In the end of the movie when Katniss is about to kill Cato he says "I'm dead anyway. I always was". What does he mean by this? It means that during the arena, during his killing spree, he realizes that there's more to life than killing, and he's just a pawn in the whole scheme of things.

He only uses Katniss because the Capitol is brutally oppressive and he realizes that, with Katniss's help, the rebels have a real chance of bringing it down. This sort of cynical pragmatism largely defines Haymitch, and it stems from a combination of realism and a rebellious spirit.
Gale Hawthorne is Katniss Everdeen's best friend and hunting partner. In order to not cast suspicion on Katniss and Peeta Mellark's highly publicized strategic romance, Gale is presented as Katniss's cousin. He bears a resemblance to Katniss, which makes their cover believable.
As he does so, Cato cuts his way through the brush and realizes what Peeta has done. Enraged at Peeta's betrayal, Cato engages the other tribute in a fight, a fight which Peeta swiftly loses, escaping only with a severe leg wound, tracker jacker strings, and burns retained from the fire.
Cato's moans are never-ending, and Katniss feels only pity for him and wants his suffering to stop. Morning finally comes and Katniss is able to see Cato below. Out of pity, she uses her last arrow to end Cato's life.
In the film, Glimmer acts flirtatiously toward Cato. They talk and joke around the fire, she sleeps beside him that night, and even snuggles into his arm. However, the relationship is largely one-sided, and Cato leaves her to die to the tracker jackers.
