Pluto was Minnie's dog and was named Rover. The Moose Hunt, which came out on May 3, 1931, Pluto appeared as Mickey's pet, and was given the name "Pluto".
Meanwhile, Pluto first appears in Walt Disney's short The Chain Gang (1930) but has no name. In 1930 in The Picnic the dog is named Rover. In The Moose Hunt (1931) his name is called Pluto the Pup. This last name change to Pluto the pup makes it pretty obvious that Pluto is in fact a dog.

Venetia Burney Phair was an accountant and taught economics and math in England. But she will best be remembered for what she accomplished at age 11 – giving Pluto its name. In an interview with NASA in January 2006, Phair said she offered the name Pluto over breakfast with her mother and grandfather.

Originally known as Dippy Dawg, the character is more commonly known simply as "Goofy," a name used in his short film series. In his 1950s persona, Goofy was called George Geef, or G. G. Geef, implying that "Goofy" was merely a nickname.

Early production documents for Goof Troop contain a proposed explanation for the absence of Goofy's wife, proposing that she may have fallen off a cliff while Goofy was taking her picture during a visit to the Grand Canyon.
The object Tombaugh discovered was eventually named Pluto, a name officially adopted by the American Astronomical Society, the Royal Astronomical Society in the UK, and the International Astronomical Union.
According to the space agency, Pluto's surface is cratered, white, tan and brownish-red in colour. The partial heart visible is "white" while the tan and white fall towards the top of the picture to read the brown red-surface.
In 2006, the International Astronomical Union stripped Pluto of its planethood, placing it — along with Eris and potentially many other bodies — into a newly created category: dwarf planet.
The name Ploutōn came into widespread usage with the Eleusinian Mysteries, in which Pluto was venerated as both a stern ruler and a loving husband to Persephone. The couple received souls in the afterlife and are invoked together in religious inscriptions, being referred to as Plouton and as Kore respectively.

Butch the Bulldog is a vicious bulldog that first appeared in the 1940 short Bone Trouble. He appears mainly as Pluto's arch nemesis. Like Pluto, Butch is portrayed as a relatively normal dog, contrast to the anthropomorphic characters surrounding them.
