During the Second Rebellion, soldiers from District 13, including Katniss herself, were given specifically formulated poison capsules to swallow in the event they were captured. Dubbed "nightlock", they were known to have the same effect as the berries themselves.
In the aftermath of killing Coin, Katniss tries to take her nightlock pill but Peeta stops her, a parallel and inversion of their attempted “suicide” in the first book.
Recognizing that only a select few people would know why she killed Coin not Snow, Katniss prepared to ingest a suicide "Nightlock" pill, but Peeta stripped the poison from her as she was carried away by rebel guards. Hours later, Katniss is visited in the Capitol jail by Abernathy - who reads a letter from Plutarch.

Did Peeta stop Katniss from taking the Nightlock pill?
After Peeta stops Katniss from taking the Nightlock pill, Katniss begs him to let her go but he says “I can't.” Its a beautiful moment in the book showing him protect her instead of harming her like the Capitol intended.
Why so evil, Peeta? Well, as we learn at the beginning of Mockingjay (spoilers, obv), he's been brainwashed by a method called “hijacking,” in which Tracker Jacker venom is injected to create hallucinations. In this particular case, he's been brainwashed to hate Katniss.
Katniss comes close to crying, something she knows she mustn't do because it would indicate weakness to the other tributes and make her look vulnerable; thankfully, Haymitch distracts the crowd and the cameras by stumbling off stage.
Since the end of Katniss' first Hunger Games, President Snow has been wary of Katniss and the power she wields over the districts. Snow recognized early, from Katniss' first stunt with Peeta and the nightlock berries, that she could mean trouble for his power and control over the Capitol.
Notably, she is responsible for feeding her family, which she does by hunting and foraging, skills she learned from her father before his death in a mine explosion years earlier. Hunting, however, is illegal and punishable by death. Katniss does it anyway, indicating a rebellious streak in her.
According to the star behind Effie, Elizabeth Banks, she and Haymitch's Woody Harrelson improvised the scene. Considering she's been adamant about the characters having some romantic connection, it only makes sense that they'd share a goodbye kiss. It's very on-brand for Effie, as well.
Katniss is acquitted of murder by reason of insanity and sent home to District 12, while her mother leaves for District 4 and Gale for District 2. Other District 12 natives later return, including Peeta, who has recovered his memories and his love for Katniss.
The death of her father appears to cause severe depression in her mother. This leaves 11-year-old Katniss as the sole carer of her mother and younger sister.
In the end, Katniss and Gale grew apart, as many childhood friends and young loves do. She needed something different in her life, and with Gale's link to Primrose's death, Katniss found a reason to cut ties. If Katniss ever wanted to find comfort again, she knew she had to return to Peeta for the long term.
Snow laughs after Katniss killed Coin because he enjoys the irony of the situation. He avoided the official execution ceremony, even though Panem's citizens still take their revenge on him, while Katniss ends up snatching away the victory and power that Coin thinks she has successfully secured.
In the end, Spruce and Sejanus are hanged at the Hanging Tree; Snow feels responsible for Sejanus' death and is wracked with grief. According to Jacobson, Sejanus' death is a "defining moment" that is "essential" to Snow's transformation into the evil President Snow fans know from the original trilogy.
She remembers that they did indeed promise not to lie to each other anymore, and she realizes that Snow wasn't lying to her about Coin's role in the parachute bombing. He has no reason to lie to Katniss. His death is certain, but the future of the Capitol is not.
She was only 13 years old when she was killed in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, and her youth only makes the tragedy that much harder for Katniss to bear after everything else she had suffered. Prim's death is a truly heartbreaking moment.
Even if Gale didn't intend to murder Prim specifically, he certainly intended to murder somebody. The two-phase bombs that he and Beetee invented were very clearly made with the intent of targeting medics and other civilians trying to save those wounded during the first phase of bombing.
What happens if you don t show up for the reaping Hunger Games?
Attendance is mandatory unless you are on death's door. This evening, officials will come around and check to see if this is the case. If not, you'll be imprisoned. It's too bad, really, that they hold the reaping in the square one of the few places in District 12 that can be pleasant.
The female Morphling, however, appears almost coincidentally, and Peeta even mentions that they don't know her real name. Given that she is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect Peeta, it's safe to assume that the Morphling was committed to the rebel cause.
While a prisoner of the Capitol, Peeta was hijacked into believing that Katniss was not human, but in fact one of the Capitol's mutts. Conversely, Johanna Mason suggested that the Capitol's torture replaced Peeta with an "evil-mutt version" of himself. This sentiment was later echoed by Katniss.
Peeta is of "medium height, stocky build" and has "ashy blond hair that falls in waves over his forehead." He has blue eyes. He is "broad-shouldered and strong." Part of Peeta's left leg was amputated following the 74th Hunger Games, forcing him to walk with the aid of a prosthetic leg for the rest of his life.
