Ripley was impregnated in deep space before the escape vehicle was jettisoned to Fiorina 161. You can see the facehugger attached to her in the computer scan of her pod below. Her pod was not intact. Before the escape vehicle was jettisoned, the glass casing of her pod could be seen to be broken.
After the crash, Newt's broken tube was flooded and she drowned. Since the Alien embryo required a living host, it escaped through Newt's mouth, swam to Ripley (whose tube had been shattered during the crash), forced her mouth open and crawled into Ripley's esophagus (explaining why Ripley has a sore throat).
Ripley was indeed in hypersleep for 57 years. When she first meets Company representative Carter Burke (Paul Reiser), she is in the hospital and he informs her that she's been out there for 57 years, at which point she starts to react to an alien birthing from her.
In Alien 3, that hasn't changed, and they want the embryo that Ripley is carrying. Deciding it is best to destroy the embryo, Ripley decides to sacrifice herself after killing the Xenomorph, refusing to let Weyland-Yutani take her in alive. She dives into the furnace, destroying both herself and the embryo inside her.
After having sacrificed herself to kill the Alien queen gestating inside her in Alien 3, Ripley has been cloned using blood samples so that the military may extract the queen embryo. As a result of the cloning process Ripley has been affected by the Alien queen's DNA.

Why did Ripley shave her head in Alien 3?

The alien-fighting warrant officer revealed her shaved head in the third instalment of the successful franchise, which had her stranded on a prison spaceship. “I think it brings out the faces and the vulnerability of these actors very much,” she said of her and her fellow cast mate's shorn locks.
Unfortunately Ripley was carrying a Queen Alien embryo inside of her, which the company, Weyland Yutani, wanted to preserve to produce biological weapons. Ripley kills herself to avoid this. Centuries after the death of Ripley, scientists were able to clone her using DNA acquired from the incidents in Alien 3.
The film faced problems during production, including shooting without a script and the attachment of various screenwriters and directors. Fincher, in his feature directorial debut, was brought in to direct after a proposed version with Ward as director was canceled during pre-production.
As stated previously, Newt was given an ignominious death at the beginning of the third installment in the "Alien" franchise; despite safely making it off LV-426 with Ripley and Corporal Hicks, she is drowned when their escape pod lands in the water on the planet Fiorina 161, leaving Ripley as the only survivor.
Ripley is in stasis for 57 years between Alien and Aliens, taking the franchise to the year 2179, which is also when Alien 3 takes place. The last film chronologically, Alien Resurrection, takes place in 2318, roughly 200 years after Alien 3 when Ripley is brought back as a clone.
Unfortunately, Ripley learns that she was floating through space for an astonishing 57 years before being found. Ripley also later learns that her daughter passed away two years before she was discovered, but while this confirms the film's timeline of events, it still is not explained how this was revealed to Ripley.
In theory, she's subjectively 32 years of age throughout the events of Alien, Aliens and Alien³ (born 2092, shipped out 2124) but we don't really get much backstory to explain how much time she's spent in hypersleep since birth, nor do we know how much one ages during hypersleep.
Ripley soon learns that during her cryostasis aboard the escape pod, she was attacked by a Face Hugger, and impregnated with a Xenomorph embryo. A scan using the escape pod's barely functioning medical apparatus reveals this baby is none other than an Alien Queen.
This Alien is different from the ones in previous installments due to its host being quadrupedal (a dog in the theatrical cut, an ox in the assembly cut). Initially a visual effects supervisor, Woodruff decided to take the role of the creature after his company, Amalgamated Dynamics, was hired by Fox.
After having killed the Alien by thermal shock, Ripley sacrifices herself by diving into a gigantic furnace just as the alien Queen begins to erupt from her chest. Her plan was to exterminate the final trace of the Aliens and prevent the Weyland-Yutani Corporation from using it as a biological weapon.
Newt was the daughter Ripley never had, and Ripley was the new mother that Newt needed. That part of the storyline makes “Aliens” my favorite film of the franchise.
Hicks took a romantic interest in Ripley from the start, although it seems Ripley was initially intimidated by this. He also respected Ripley's intelligence, courage and ability to stay calm and think straight during a dangerous situation.
Summary. Alien 3 almost ruined the franchise with its bad reception, but it would have been even worse if they used a script that killed off Ripley, Hicks, and Newt from the start. Eric Red's Alien III script had a controversial opening that revealed the deaths of all beloved characters, leading to a backlash.
In Alien 3, Ripley gets infected with a Xenomorph embryo by a Facehugger and lands on a prison planet following the unceremonious deaths of Hicks and Newt.
Ripley 8 subsequently became involved in the Xenomorph outbreak and infestation aboard the Auriga. While outwardly human, cross-contamination of DNA between Ripley 8 and the Xenomorph inside her endowed Ripley 8 with several Xenomorph attributes; essentially, she was neither human nor alien, but something in between.
