Boba Fett was definitely dead. We all saw it: a partially blinded Han Solo unknowingly whacked him with a stick in Return of the Jedi, his jetpack malfunctioned, and then he fell into the mouth of a massive sand monster.
For decades, fans were outraged by the sudden killing off of Boba Fett. This bounty hunter became an instant fan-favorite for his cool design and sly demeanor in the very few scenes he appeared in throughout the original Star Wars trilogy.

He is a toddler member of the same species as the Star Wars characters Yoda and Yaddle, with whom he shares a strong ability in the Force.

It was believed that Grogu would eventually become a victim of Kylo Ren's destruction of Luke's Jedi Order. However, The Book of Boba Fett revealed that Grogu chose to follow the Way of the Mandalorian rather than become a Jedi, sparing him from Kylo Ren's wrath.

Grogu's mother is either Yaddle or some other female member of Yoda's species, but he has no father. Because just like Anakin, Grogu was born off the Will of the Force, with no dad, and that explains why he's so powerful at an age that's considered an infant for Yoda's species.
In The Mandalorian season 2, Ahsoka Tano explained that Grogu needed to choose his own path, and it may be with the Mandalorians rather than the Jedi (showing Tano may be a little wiser than Luke, to boot). Thus, Grogu choosing his family over the asceticism of the Jedi Order made for incredibly engaging storytelling.
To be clear, Grogu is not a younger version of Yoda since "The Mandalorian" is set after "Return of the Jedi," in which Yoda (played by Frank Oz) died. They are, however, of the same species — but that species has not yet been revealed. There are more similarities between Yoda and Grogu than just looks.
Coupled with the fact that the only other members of his species to have been seen in Star Wars canon were also especially powerful Jedi, this may begin to explain Grogu's true significance. Grogu may be the child of Yoda and Yaddle, potentially conceived purely to help preserve their incredibly rare species.
At the time of The Mandalorian story, it is pretty clear that Moff Gideon is not a Sith Lord even though he has the Darksaber in his possession nor does he have any links to the Jedi. Moff Gideon is nothing more than one of the Empire's existing bad guys who officially worked for the Imperial Security Bureau.
He was afraid of meeting the legend that was Luke Skywalker. At this point in Star Wars history, Jedi were still scarce, so when he heard that a Jedi was there, he must have known exactly who it was. To an Imperial officer, this Jedi did nothing but inspire terror.
